Parigi Restaurant

Description

Since Parigi is the Italian word for Paris, it should come as no surprise to you that this is French/New American cuisine with a little Italian thrown in. The decor consists of contemporary Mediterranean and American furnishings with soft muted colors and artful accents. Expect stellar service from a charming staff. A favorite among the Oak Lawn clientele is the Beef Tenderloin with coarse grain mustard sauce and roasted shallot smashed potatoes. But if you're looking for something that combines French and Mediterranean, try the Fettuccini with chicken, ancho chili, poblano peppercorn and tomato ranchera sauce. Call ahead for hours.

Local Favorite

One of my favorite local places--unique, fresh, has flair, intimate setting, great for meeting friends or for a date. I've been going for years, but should note the only thing on the menu that has not changed is Beef Tenderloin with roasted shallots & smashed potatoes. The menu and art work change often, lots of staff have been there for years, and Janice (one of chef/owners and last of the originals) is charming and talented. Sometimes real busy and some nights a little loud, but all meals excellent. If you are sick of chain cafes, check out this original.

Very Disappointing
By ,
Three of us went to Parigi last night, and we were less than satisfied. The service was slow, starting off with the delivery of the drinks. We wondered what happened, when eventually the server appeared with 2 drinks, and later with the third. One of us had to stop the server, and ask if we could order some appetizers. He took the order, but it took forever before they were brought to the table. Finally, the server came back and we told him that we would like to place our dinner orders (he didn't ask us!). He listened to what we wanted, but didn't write anything down. Sure enough, eventually someone from the kitchen brought out 2 of the same dinners (Osso Bucco), and was asking US where they went, rather than the server who should have known we didn't order the same dish twice. There was some confusion as to who got what, at the same time the 3rd dinner was brought out by yet another kitchen worker. 2 of us got the correct dishes, and the 3rd person was left wondering what he was getting. The server came by and told him it would only be a few minutes (so why the long wait earlier?). By the time it was brought out, the other 2 were almost done with their dinners, so we told the server he didn't want it anymore. He asked if he could he leave it, and I told him not to charge us for the dinner. He didn't charge us, and the person ate most of the meal, but it ruined the mood of the evening. The pasta dish was very good, but the Osso Bucco that the server raved over was just OK. It was a very small portion, and fatty. We were seated next to the opening to the kitchen, right next to the silverware stand and the bar. The noise level was very high, and we could see the bartender wasn't very busy (which made us wonder why it took so long to get our drinks including a 2nd round). The server might have been disappointed in the tip he was left, but he was inattentive, slow, and made obvious mistakes. If we ever return to Parigi, we'll make sure to ask for a different server, and order something less complicated (and expensive) than Osso Bucco.
