True to tradition and an innovator of new tastes, El Chico is the Mexican food original, a legend since 1940.
My family and I started going to this El Chico about 6 months ago, when we moved to the area. We initially liked it so much, that we were going about once a week. After a couple of months we noticed a decline in customer service and food. The waiters and waitresses are getting slower and slower, and the food takes too long to come out. Not to mention it's usually cold when it does. I don't think it's the kitchen, I think it's the slow waitstaff letting it sit there too long before delivering it. We went last week and it took about 15 minutes for the waitress to bring our guacamole, which she then had to make tableside. Then she didn't return to take our order for about another 10 minutes. Our food came out cold about 15-20 minutes later. We were in there for well over an hour. I hate to nit pick a place, but it just seems like every operation takes longer than it does at any other restaraunt. Getting drinks, appetizer, taking your order, food arrive time, getting the check, getting change or credit card receipt. Add 5 minutes to each of these actions, and you end up with about 30 minutes. That's about how much longer it takes to eat at this El Chico then any other restaraunt.
I really love El Chico. For the past several months our church group has been going there and it has been great.I have a large family and on Thursdays we go to El Chico for the .99 meal for children. I think it's great to be able to not cook on Thursdays and enjoy a reasonably priced meal for our entire family. We are there so often that we know the staff by name.It has been great for our friends and family. Keep up the good work.
I an from mexicana desent and can not belive the review I just read.
My family along, with friends often visit the restraunt in the review.
We have eaten at both restraunts and have found that the customer service and the food was great, a true Texmex style of cooking at El Chico. On the other hand while eating at On The Border we felt like we were just anyone off the street, the waitress was in a hurry to get us out of there. As for as myself and family and friends will contiune to go to El Chico Desoto Tx. At least we feel welcome.
I have been going to this El Chico now for about 10 years and the food was pretty good but I started to notice a decline in the overall service and the food. I took my family there last night to eat and was very disappointed. When we first stepped in the door; there was no one to greet or seat us and stood there waiting for seven minutes before being seated. Once seated, a server came to the table and took orders for the drinks and gave us chips and salsa. It took 15 minutes for them to bring the drinks, and the chips were cold and stale. The cokes were flat and the food was awful. The light at the table keep flickering and the server had the personality of a rock. Once I gave the server my credit card to pay; I had to wait and wait and wait for her to finish talking to the people at the next table about her son’s football team. Avoid this place at all cost. I will never eat at this place again. On the Border is a whole lot better.
