Owner Eddie Lawand prides himself on the fact that the Grand Cafe is named after a legendary restaurant in Beirut. It specializes in Philadelphia-style and Lebanese cooking. Special Middle Eastern dishes include the Philly Chicken Sandwich, Lemony Tabbouleh Salad with cracked bulgur wheat, and Shish Tawook sandwich (pita with juicy chunks of grilled chicken, onion, tomato and parsley). Classic burgers and cheese steak are offered for those who want something more American. Turkish coffee or mint-flavored Lebanese hot tea is available when it's not too busy. No alcohol is allowed.

I love the Philly chicken. Sometimes hubby and I meet for lunch and go there. The owner is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

REALLY Good Hummus!! The place is REALLY dirty and poorly decorated. The kabobs take FOREVER when your order. The last time it took over 25 minutes for a takeout order! They have really small portions but the food is well worth it!

This place is a good choice if you are hungry and you want a quick fix of Falafel, Kebabs, or any other Middle Eastern "fast-food". But with all of the new Middle Eastern competition popping up in the Dallas area, Grand Cafe will need to make a few adjustments to their menu, service, and ambiance if they want to remain in business. I don't know if it is different now, but these are my experiences from about a year ago. The place is dirty: the bathrooms and the floor. The bright floresent (sp) lights don't compliment the dirty place either. The decoration is poor and could probably use more colours. If you don't care about the way it looks, and just want good food, know that the Humus isn't bad. They can be stingy on Pita bread. Try the Lebanese garlic sandwich - now that is good. You can tell that they are trying hard to make a good meal, and it usually is good, but it by no means is lavish, and I wouldn't go there on a date or with a group or take someone who has never had middle eastern food. It's good to take your kids or bring back a falafel sandwich, but call first cause it take forever to make stuff there. You can also order the water pipe for 5.00 or so. The prices are good.
