The Mantel seemed to have potential but it was a pretty big disappointment on our anniversary. When we arrived the hostess did not have our reservation and was very rude about it. I understand there is a similarly named restaurant nearby but I had researched different places and know which restaurant I called. She had no reason to question me when we arrived. For their mistake we were placed next to the kitchen and entrance with no apology from anyone.
Ordering went okay and we received our appetizer but then it took forever for them to find the wine we ordered. Then things just got worse, the waitress brought bread without the famed dipping sauce because apparently they had run out of bowls. My husband's steak was supposed to be done medium but the outer portion was akin to beef jerky. My steak was excellent but the side potato was dried out. During the meal we never saw our waitress once, I don't like to be asked about my meal but we poured our own wine and ran out of water during this time which, with the apparent caliber of The Mantel, I assumed would be done for us. This all was aggravated by the fact that with the reservation mix-up we were placed near the kitchen where a leak had occurred and all the waitstaff were cleaning up and talking loudly.
Finally we ordered dessert (it was after all our anniversary). We received our dessert but my husband's espresso never showed and his tiramisu was still frozen. When we asked about the coffee 20 minutes later the waitress had just flat out forgotten. We did get the coffee for free but by this time we were just fed up. Too little too late I guess.
The Mantel just did not meet our expectations for the caliber restaurant we thought it would be. We will not be returning and would not recommend it to a friend if we were asked.
