(First & Last visit)….My party of 5 Germans (my wife, myself, two sons, and my 82-year old mother) arrived at 3:30 to 4:00 pm on a Saturday to the Bavarian Inn, Eureka Springs. My mother wanted to take a break (low blood sugar), to get a small pastry & coffee. My wife and boys wanted cherry streusel … I just wanted some German beer.
Waiter began setting fancy plates, silverware for a full dinner, upon the white table clothes. I told him we really just wanted to take a rest, and enjoy their pastry and beer. All those plates would not be necessary.
“Oh, you are not having dinner with us?” the waiter asked.
“No sir, it’s a little early for that” I answered…. (3:45PM).
“Wait one moment, while I get the manager,” said the waiter.
Everyone looked at me for an explanation, as to what we had done wrong. I looked at all, with a stunned and puzzled look. My mom was very concerned.
A lady (manager) shortly arrived, and stated…..”I’m going to have to ask you to leave. If you are not having dinner, we are too busy to have you in here.”
I looked at the sea of empty tables, except 2 people in a corner. I promptly stood up, and told everyone in the party, (especially my almost deaf mom), …. in a loud tone…., that we must leave, because they were too busy.
“Too busy? “ “What do you mean?” asked my (almost blind) Mom, as she also scanned the sea of empty tables, with their white table clothes. “I’ve never been thrown out of a restaurant in my life.” Mom stammered.
“First time for all of us, Mom!”I answered.
Thank you, Bavarian Inn…for a traumatic, FIRST and LAST, visit to your place. Mom spoke of it often, until the day she died.
