Great break spot for a busy afternoon. Gulf Oysters were very tasty, Beer Was Cold, and Service was good.
Hushpuppies were small, but there were plenty of them in the basket to make up the difference. Right Priced, and the Sauce bar was also a treat. Gumbo was packed full of ingredients, not too spicy, and served over rice.
Casual atmosphere, and plenty of items on the menu insure I will be investigating them Further..
After a hectic afternoon of shopping the Oyster Bar was a nice place to sit back, order cold drinks and a tray of oysters. The oysters were very fresh, cleaned very well, and they were plump and delicious, served with crackers, very rustic. The hushpuppies were tasty, small and light, but you get a lot. The prices were decent and the staff friendly.
Casual and laid back atmosphere.
Great place to just hang out or recover from shopping.
I have a theory about The Oyster Bar as well as a few other restaurants in Little Rock's older neighborhoods. I think people go there because it's comfortable, they often know others there and they are just familiar with the place but they probably really are not that fond of the food. I can't imagine a person going there thinking they are really getting GREAT Cajon food. I've had the gumbo, the creole and their oyster po-boy sandwiches and all were bland at best. The oyster po-boy was just awful. The shrimp salad is however very good and the beer is good and cold. My biggest turn off hands down is the rest rooms. They just smell! Even when they appear clean they still smell. It is a huge turn off.
The best oysters I've had outside of Louisianna! They keep the oysters cold and fresh, and shuck them upon request. For those who aren't a fan of raw oysters they have a good variety of po boy sandwiches, fried clams, and other things. Truly something for everyone. For cold beer and cold oysters they can't be beat!
