I have been to this restaurant numerous times, and always had a good experience. Steaks have always been cooked to order, and the wait staff always attentive. Our church has our Christmas Banquet here every year, too, and we have always had a good time.
Since there is no place to eat in Pine Bluff, we drove down to Star City the end of January 2011 to have a steak. Called ahead for reservations and finally got a table after a not too long wait.
Ordered a strip steak medium well and it was burned to a crisp. Salad was okay, baked potato was well...it is a baked potato- what can really go wrong? Bread on the table one time- no seconds for a table of four. The wait staff acted like were we in the way.
This place as at least a three in the past- but this trip was a two at best. We will not be back as they have the last dollar from me. As much as I hate the crowds in Little Rock- that is where we will go to spend our eating dollars.
This was not worth the price or the gas to drive there.
I gave it a three star- but it was really a 2.5.
Best Prime Rib anywhere: I've eaten prime rib all over the u.s. and I'd put Layne's up to anybody ... and it's only $15 for the full meal! All the steaks are excellent as well as the french onion soup and even the oysters of the house. Don't deny yourself. Make the drive to Country Village, south of Star City for this wonderful dining experience.
