While Juban's is still a great place for a meal, their food is no longer uniformly impeccable. For example, my wife and I ordered Mozarella Caprese and the tomatos were cold and pulpy, with no flavor. If they couldn't get vine-ripened fresh tomatos from a reputable source they should not have served the dish. While Mansur's is also good (albeit not as good as Juban's), even their signature dish (the duck) isn't even in the same realm as the entres at place like New Orleans' Bayona.
Brandt's is different though! While the menu is smaller (as is appropriate to a more intimate atmosphere) than three-star quality New Orleans restaurants, the food really is competetive. Every dish has that subtle complexity that can only be achieved by great ingredients and fantastic cooking. If you love gourmet cooking you will love Brandt's.
The atmosphere is also great: intimate, romantic and with accoustics that allow you to focus on your date and not the conversations of the other customers. The wait people are formal yet relaxed and friendly. They really seem to enjoy your enjoyment of the atmosphere and meal.
While Brandt's is expensive (entrees circa 20 dollars) compared to other Baton Rouge eateries, for food this good they could charge twice as much in other cities. So save your pennies and go. It's the only place in Baton Rouge where the food inspires reveries.
very poor service. the lobster tail was rubbery and when my lady guest mentioned it to the waiter the cook in a dirty white t-shirt came out of the kitchen and started to yell at her saying she got what she ordered. the managemant did nothing to stop him. our mixed drinks never came and when i aske dfor a to go box for my steak the waiter put the dirty butter plate on top of the meat.
they did not order to replace the lobster of take some off the bill.
i have never experienced someone being yelled at in the middle of a restaurant. (this is an expensive place)
i called later to talk to the owner and she informed me that n one has ever complined about the lobster before and she hung up on me. for the price i could have gone to mansur's or galatoire and been guaranteed good food and service. we went to this resaturant because i try to support mid-city establishments.
Brandt's is my favorite restaurant. Great, friendly service. Every time I have dinner there it feels like a private dining experience. Amazing lobster bisque. In my opinion, they have the best Creme Brulee of any restaurant.
Wonderful! Best restaurant in Baton Rouge. Unpretentious! Small Staff, Great Food, good value, we had a private room with a table for ten, dinner was an experience, and with drinks, apps, and desert was approx $75 per person with 25%( i included) tip. I had rack of lamb, perfectly cooked ( a full 8 ribs), my wife had red snapper with lump crabmeat. Excellent, great place for 6-10 people.
