We recommend you avoid this dump. In one word, pretentious.
Our party of four all found Mazen s lacking. Service was slow and inept. Our waitress had tables in two rooms and rarely was where we could reach her. She actually asked how my son wanted his duck cooked! She neglected to bring the bread or our second appetizer even after several requests.
My wife s quail were burned with little or no meat. The duck was so-so. I requested the rack of lamb, medium. The center was raw and had to be returned.
During our diner, one waiter played at the piano while flirting with two other staff.
While I am not as picky as the judges on Chopped, I also believe that a dish ought to look pleasing. Each disk was a muted mono-color.
In fairness, our waitress tried to be helpful. I did not appreciate being asked if I wanted dessert right after being served our entree. Looking back, I think that she knew she wouldn t return to our table for another 20 minutes.
Oh, it took one and a half hours to get served.
Where we sat, my wife said smelled musty.
We will not return.
This restaurant came highly recommended by everyone (over 60 years old).
We are from Atlanta, GA and recently stationed in Louisiana. We decided to explore and drove to Lake Charles yesterday and made reservations at mazen s.
The restaurant exterior is quite dated but inside is really beautiful. Our hostess was marvelous as was our waiter.
The fact that they were out of crawfish bisque should have been my sign to leave. We ordered flash friend oysters and were told they were lightly breaded and flash fried. When they arrived they had a lot of breading and no flavor. We sent them back and I ordered the fish Natchez and my husband ordered one of the specials. I was told my dish would come with their signature butter sauce around it but my plate was swimming in sauce when it arrived and had no taste. We sent it back. To be fair with my revie, my husband s dish was wonderful.
Aaron, the manager, came to our table and proceeded to tell me, the customer, that this grouper was the best fish he d had in weeks, there was nothing wring with it or the oysters and that I couldn t get anything else. He was very argumentative and disagreeable. I thanked him and told him we had no problem paying for our meal. We got out check and paid - leaving my husband s food on the table!
I was very disappointed the food as well as well as the manager s attitude.
Trust me, we will never set foot in Mazen s again and will tell our friends about our horrible experience.
My wife and I went to Mazen's to celebrate our anniversary. We have been frequent lunch guests, but have never made it for dinner. The food, as always, was perfect. The service, however, was very sub-par. It took about 15 minutes to be greeted, and once that happened, we were never informed of any specials, recommendations or a featured wine. It frustrated us even more to hear the other servers treat their guests with recommendations, etc...
Once our server introduced herself, it took approximately 15 minutes to get our drinks and 30 minutes for our appetizers; once she made it back to entertain the thought asking if we'd like appetizers. The appetizers...a cup and bowl of bisque.
I am going to guess that either this was perhaps an off-night for our server or she was new and not familiar with any of the menu. Hopefully, the next time weare there for evening dining, things will be better. Five stars for the food, but I have to give 1 star for the service for an average of three.
This is the best food in southwest Louisiana and southeast texas. If you are a meat person, get the ribeye with crab meat!! Everything is excellent from the salad to the appetizers to the drinks. Great service and great atmosphere...it is expensive, but once you eat the food you forget about the price. AAAA+++++
The best in Lake Charles. If you like fine dining, great food and want to treat someone special this is the place. Meals are about 20.00 and up, apps are about 10 and up but worth every penny, so very good!!!!
We have eaten here one time....because that is all we could afford. A VERY expensive restaurant, but that being said, the food was wonderful and it was great for a special night out. I would go again, but only for special nights when I don't mind spending over $100 for two adults. The atmosphere was VERY loud. Everyone's voices just blended and it was hard to speak quietly to your dinner date. That is my only complaint.
This restaurant takes the cake. The atmosphere is wonderful, but I could be stuck in a shantytown and still enjoy this decadent food. I have tried many items on the menu and I have not been disappointed yet. My favorite is their crab crepes. It is a dish that is a must have. I usually get the two 3 oz. filets with lump crab meat on the top, but their tuna is also fantastic. I have tried the banana's foster and it is fantastic. Try it all and you won't regret any of it. The staff and service is also spectacular. It is truly one of Lake Charle, Louisiana's largest assets. Do not pass this restaurant by. Go in and try it; I promise you will not be disappointed. The price is expensive, but the quality of food, service, and atmosphere; you will feel like you are getting it at a discount.
This is a great place to go for an anniversary or formal event. The food, though a little pricey, is just excellent, and the atmosphere is very upscale, yet still warm. The pianist provides a bit of variety in the background: you are just as likely to hear either the Moonlight Sonata or the Charlie Brown theme song. All in all, I love going here. It's one of the finest restaurants in Lake Charles.
