I go to Lafayette at least once a month and always make it a point to eat at the Blue Dog cafe. The atmosphere and service is excellent. The seafood wanton appetizer is one of my many favorites. The Sunday Buffet is awesome.
We drove 50 miles from Baton Rouge because people had told us it was a fantastic restaurant; we agree it is good, but not fantastic or excellent. Reasonable prices for food served. Menu and the way dishes were prepared were very different from other restaurants in South Louisiana. They would have something for just about anyone's taste and the quality was very good (not excellent). Very nice but disappointing table service. I definitely recommend this restaurant, just don't expect perfection.
i for one was not impressed with the Blue Dog Cafe. I found the prices to be rather high for the quality of my order. I found the found to be mediocre at best compared to other lafayette area restaurants. The artwork and atmosphere were good enough to make up for the food if you value atmosphere over food.
Best crawfish etouffee and excellent house dressing
By A Yahoo Contributor, 8/19/06
Had dinner here earlier this summer while traveling through south Louisiana and enjoyed everything we ordered. Even though the restaurant was crowded, our server was prompt and attentive without being overly so. I ordered the crawfish etouffee. The menu has several items that have ratings next to them (i.e. the dish won some award) and the crawish etouffee was highly recommended. This is by far the best I've ever had. The entrees come with a dinner salad and I would highly recommend the house dressing (basalmic cane vinegarette). Their dressing is amazing. I believe it has Steen's syrup in it but it has quite a kick to it. We requested a bottle to purchase but they don't sell it. Wish they did.
