Blue Dog Cafe, Lafayette

I am from out of state and the Blue Dog was recommended to me by a friend. We have been in the Lafayette area for about 6 weeks and tried many of the local restaurants. I had the seafood platter, which is my favorite anywhere I eat. It was the best seafood I have eaten since I have been in Louisiana. My wife had the Louisiana Purchase and she loved it. We also had the seafood wontons...they were amazing! The staff was friendly and attentive and we had a wonderful experience. We will definitely go back while we are in Louisiana! Absolutely loved it!!!

I have to agree with the bad reviews given to the eating experiences at Blue Dog...Awful is a fair assessment! I have repeatedly noticed a lack of quality with the food over the past two years...it never used to be this way!!! I ordered the evening special recently; rib eye covered with crayfish etauffee topping. The rib eye was the worst cut of meat, not worthy of any restaurant but to make matters worse, the crayfish etauffee topping had only 6 very small pieces of broken crayfish and tasted absolutely nasty. But hey, this was my place and I ate it. I am (was) such a Blue Dog fan that I just chalked it off as another bad night...until my husband told me it was $27.95. I about choked. When I complained to the server which we had had many times before...he simply said that he would let them know€. I bit my tongue!!! When I was leaving I told the maitradee only to be met with a smile and a, “€œI'm sorry!” WHUT???  I have been talking about this experience to everyone I know only to be met with similar experiences from most everyone! But the true kicker was when our guest from out of the state came in and we said let's go to Blue Dog, they said...the last two times it wasn't any good! WOW!!! That did it for us. WAYYYYY to many fantastic places to eat in Lafayette at more reasonable prices to boot! This kills me because Blue Dog has been my monthly spot for years. Now, I cringe when I think about them! So sad! They used to be sooo good! They still seem to riding on the faithful clientele that I used to be... But one month soon it's going to get them...their bad quality can not continue much longer and sustain the business, especially at their prices! Who ever is watching over this business must be terribly distracted!

Looked forward to eating here, but It must be a prerequisite for employment at the Blue Dog Cafe to write a good review for this restaurant! We went because of the great reviews and web page, buyer beware!! IT WAS AWFUL! Certainly no one who has ever had good Cajun food or fresh seafood would ever eat there twice!!!!!!!! The shrimp wrapped in bacon was dry and stringy, meaning badly frozen and nuked. the stuffed shrimp was a prepackaged job you can probably purchase at Sams. The Mahi Mahi was so dry it was inedible. It took almost an hour and a half to get the 'garbage' so being exhausted from our 3 hour drive there, we asked to have the entrees packaged to go. They were so bad I actually called the restaurant to tell the manager how bad they were. He offered for us to come in the next day and they would make it up to us but REALLY? with actually good food everywhere else? we declined and ate at an awesome place called Randal's Cajun Dance Hall and Restaurant!! GO THERE!!!

I live out of state and wanted to purchase a gift card for friends living in the area. They first said they don't mail gift cards but came back and said they would for $6! Six dollars to mail a gift card 2 miles away. I think not. Sorry, but because you were so greedy, you lost our business.

Wow I adore this restaurant! The food is so delicious, the waitstaff very nice, and the ambiance is wonderful. The crabcakes are the best I have EVER eaten! When I have friends come in from out of town I bring them here and they are always clammoring to get back, and not to see me! To go to The Blue Dog!!!! This is my favorite place in town!

I find the entrees in general to be very good but not so much when it comes to sides. Their maque choux seems like its something they just poured out of a can. Try the crabmeat au gratin. MMMMM!

Fantastic nourishment for the eyes, the stomach and the soul. The Brie Crab soup is incredible!!!

Unfortunately we stopped at around 4, the restaurant does not open until 5, but the bar is open with just appetizers - wow - am I glad we got there before 5. The appetizers were fantastic - we had 3 maybe 4, they were all good. The paintings around the whole restaurant is enough reason to stop, the food tops it off. John

This is the #1 dining experience in Lafayette, and Lafayette has some of the best restaurants in the WORLD. The food is fabulous, and I have eaten here at least 40-50 times. The ambiance is great for a family, but also great for that special occasion with your special lady friend or other adults. The corn and crab bisque here can only be beat by the one I cook myself (and no you're not invited to my house!). If this is not a 5-star restaurant then 5-star restaurants don't exist!!! Great food, great drinks, fair prices! Tip -- AVOID BUE DOG ON SOECIAL HOLIDAYS. They put out a great buffet but they can't fit everyone in that wants to go here. They are so nice that they try to serve everyone, which just causes chaos. Save Blue Dog for a normal night when you can experience their superior service. My ratings: 5=superior 4=excellent 3=very good 2=good 1=poor

Sunday is the best day at Blue Dog. Make a reservation, as there is a line of people waiting for the place to open who already have one. For $20. it is a great brunch - besides the usual, there is smoked salmon, all the corn crab bisque you can eat, and the best pork roast with dark gravy. Everything is freshly made. The desserts could be better. Always a local musical group playing in the bar that is not annoying or too loud, so the bar tables go first. The local bands look forward to gigs here because they are allowed to eat afterwards. That's how I found out about it. Thanks, Mitch Reed (BeauSoleil)!
