Maybe they were having an off night?
By Renee, 10/5/05
We visited Bonsai on a Friday night at around 8:30. We were seated within 5 minutes but, the place was so packed. It was really loud too. The service was slow, especially with our drinks from the bar. But I did enjoy the bloody mary's. The food was ok but I've had better. It took a good hour for us to get our food. We were in there forever. I might try again but not anytime real soon.

It used to be our favorite, but anymore, we're disappointed in too many things to go back.. The food is delicious, don't get me wrong, but the prices have risen and they've cut out all of our favorite dishes from the menu just because they were inexpensive. I would rather have paid more for a good beef tataki and perfect chicken katsu don than see them leave the menu and have not much left to care about there. And charging for water just topped it off. It's a good atmosphere and delicious food, but to me, not really worth the cost.

Terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/07
I do not suggest anyone to come here. Bonsai charges for 'filtered water', water is filtered everywhere, even toilet water is filtered! No one drinks dirty water, well at least I hope! When i had a problem and needed to speak to the manager, he refused to speak to me. I had to leave unsatisfied with the food and what made me more upset was the manager, Paul. What person/business doesn't want to make things right for their customers?

GREAT PLACE
By CraigW, 1/10/06
I have eaten at numerous sushi bars on the West Coast in San Francisco and L.A. Bonsai ranks up there with them. The sushi is outstanding and very flavorful. It is presented in a way that shows that sushi is not just a food, but artwork. The chefs interact with the customers, which makes you feel as if you are important to them. This is, in my opinion, the best restaurant for sushi in Lafayette.

Best Sushi in Town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/05
I have visited many sushi restaurants in Lafayette and the rest of Louisiana and I think Bonsai is one of the best I've had. I especially like the fresh salmon rolls. They come with avocado and green onion. Bonsai's soup is really good as well.

Had dinner there last month and ordered house wine and our bill was $77.00 for wine, WTH!!! we should have been informed about the wine and that we should buy it by the bottle, first mistake--then my daughter ordered a crab salad which was 9 or 13 dollars, but she added tuna and the salad COST $26.00 that's just ridiculous!!! ALL I CAN SAY NEVER AGAIN!!!! we were 5 adults and we had appetizers and our total bill was $250.00-- I could have gone to Ruth Chris!!! This place is way over priced!!! back to Saketini!!!! It's terrible!!!!the food and service is not worth it!!!

I love Bonsai!!!! First of all, i just read some of these reviews and they do NOT charge for water unless you ask for bottled or sparkling water.... The ambiance is casual, that I really like and the sushi is properly priced :) Amazing wait-staff aside from their beauty, very friendly and accomodating. Definitely my place to go every Friday night when all the regulars come :-)

Ugh, and Ouch
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/06
Don't go here if you are NOT a sushi eater. My wife and daughter dragged me in, and I spent $60+ bucks, and didn't enjoy anything.
