Don's Seafood & Steak House, Lafayette

I am in Lafayette as a guest musician and I continue to frequent Don's Seafood & Steak House. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the entire atmosphere soars with fellowship. It's always a dining pleasure at Don's. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. As a side note! Their Pecan Pralines are 'off the chain!' They keep you wanting more.

We had been on the road all day and just needed a light dinner so I only had a cup of seafood gumbo. I am originally from the Acadiana area and I thought the gumbo was outstanding. I had more blue crab meat in my CUP of seafood gumbo than I had in two crab cakes at another Lafayette restaurant. I plan to go to Don's from now on for my seafood dining when in the area.

Growing up just south of Lafayette, we ate at Don's alot. Everytime I visit I make sure to eat there while I'm in town. The food is all great and the service is top quality.

I have to say that do enjoy Don's Seafood, however, they are expensive! Food portions are VERY SMALL compared to alot of other seafood resturants and that is quite a shame for the price you pay. I have been going for quite some time and you used to get alot MORE for your money! You cannot say that you are paying for the Ambiance- because there really is none. I think that now since they are regulating the liquer, tap beer and wines- well I find that quite discusting!! The same regulator is being used for EVERY BOTTLE of WINE and LIQUER without being washed or rinsed! Anyone sitting in the bar can actually see this sitting there! Someone eventually will report you for this for sanitary reasons!

The food was wonderfull. Can't wait to go back. I thought I was in food heaven! We were taken there by a local and it was a great experience. I thought the food was true Acadia experience.

This restaurant has standard Cajun type recipes on the menu. However it seemed to me that they just fried up whatever and then sprinkled on cajun seasoning on top. I got the seafood platter, which was okay. I'm used to a good cajun restaurant having a higher quality food. The bill for the dinner we had was exorbitant, $70+ dollars for 3 people, one being a child who ordered from the child's menu. We ordered a crab dip appetizer. There didn't seem to be any crab in it. The stuffed crab and shrimp was stuffed with the same boring stuffing. It wasn't a cajun stuffing that's for sure. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone especially since we went to Ralph and Kacoos the next day had at least double the portion sizes and $20 less price on our dinners. We also ordered deserts and appetizers there! Ralph & Kacoos is much better!

The waiter was very helpful in making our selections. Did not try to force the most expensive things on us but told us what the best sellers for the local people were. Very knowledgable about the local community and appeared to be interested in serving his customers. Did not rush us or anything like that.

A top-5 restaurant for Lafayette, true cajun meals. The gumbo is genuine and delicious. The etouffee is wonderful.
