I have been eating at OTG for over 20 years, and have noticed the quailty started slipping a couple years ago. They have gone to a cheaper meat and put less in the poboys while the prices went up. I still eat there occasionally only because it close to my home.
The atmosphere is great! Everything else is the worst in Lafayette.
After standing in line, or what they call lines and being cut in front of over and over I finally got waited on to only find out that they don’t accept credit cards? Have you ever heard of such a thing in this day and time? They do however accept any kind of check, go figure!
After my meatball po-boy finally arrived it was a pile of mush sitting in juice. So I went back and showed the man behind the counter to find out that “that’s the way our po-boys look???? They did offer to fix something else for me even though three quarters of my lunch had been used. I asked for a shrimp po-boy and it came somewhat fast but after taking a huge bite to hurry up I found the po-boy to be an oyster po-boy????? I hate oysters!!!!
I just left and did without lunch today and will NEVER go back to this hole…..
But the atmosphere was good!
If you go there during the lunch rush you should expect a long wait. They are always swamped because the food is great. Get the shrimp poboy with pepper jack cheese. You will never like anyone else's as much again. I have never had any food from there that was not fantastic.
I was really busy and I had to wait a while even though I called in my order. When I got my shrimp poboy I ate half of it and saved the rest, I opened it about 2 hours later and there was a huge bug in it, it had to have been there when I got it because it was in the middle of everything. I called and they took down my number and said they would have the owner call me but he never did. I've gone back once but I got a salad and checked it before I left.
I'd give Olde Tyme 7-stars on a scale of 1-5!!! Not much you can say abou this place other than that they are the best poboy shop in all of Louisiana, and that means they are teh best in the world!!!
Go during lent and try the crawfish poboy--- YUMMMMMMMM!!!!!
My ratings: 5=superior 4=excellent 3=very good 2=good 1=poor
