Where did the name Val's come from you ask, well here you go. The building was built way back in 1959 by Mr. Valmond Hoover. It was purchased by Mr. Norris Scivicque and opened for business in 1962. Mr. Scivicque and Ms. Audrey Delatte (she was employed at the restaurant at the time) married and together ran the restaurant until his death in 1974. Ms. Audrey continued to own and operate Val's for many years after Mr. Scivicque's passing with different business partners. Mr. Claude Fontenot, Mr. Elmo Dupuy and her brother Gilbert Delatte until his retirement in 2003. Throughout the many years Ms. Audrey's children have taken a big part in helping her with the restaurant. Her daughter Carol begin working as a waitress when she was in high school and still to this day you can come in on Friday and Saturday night and she is still here. Ms. Audrey's son Joe Joe Bell took a big part in running the restaurant and bar for many years. Joe married Debra Broussard Bell in 1976 and she to jumped on board in helping run the family business and continues to manage and take part in the family business. Until Joe's death in 1997 he was a big part in turning Val's into what it is today, making lots of friends, taking care of his customers, cooking breakfast for the night workers and just being here for everyone. It's still strange walking into the bar and not seeing him sitting there with a big smile on his face as said by the many people whose hearts he touched. ln 2003 Ms. Audrey decided to take things on her own when her brother Gilbert decided to retire after his many years. And with the help of Debra (her daughter-in-law), Brett Bell (her grandson) and all the loyal employees throughout the years she made the decision to do so. At this point there were new employees along with the veterans that jumped on board like Anthony Gregoire, who still to this day helps manage and take care of day to day operations and runs the bar. In 2006 Ms. Audrey made the decision to semi-retire and sell the family business to her grandson Brett and his wife Nicole. So generations later Val's is still the family oriented restaurant everyone remembers. So to present day today Val's continues to freshly prepare your food as you order with Ms. Audrey in the kitchen and visiting customers and Serena running around waiting on customers. Val's is now not only seeing the 3rd and 4th generation customers it's employing 3rd and 4th generation employees. Ms. Audrey, her daughter Carol, her son Brett and his children Brandon and Bhrooke. You will also see Debra Bell (Joe Joe's wife), and their daughter Amber and at this point Landon and Kylee (Amber's children) are young but as the years go on, well who knows. Not just generations of family members are here but employees too like a 4th generation waitress who is employed as well as her mom. Val's has been through a lot and has weathered many floods and a fire but has always bounced back and ready to serve the community whether local or not and with the loyalty of it's employees and customers it has continued to be the restaurant it is today. So many thanks to everyone for always sticking by us.
