A-Bear's Restaurant, Houma

A-Bear's Cafe has the best lunches ever, very traditional cajun food cooked by cajun women fresh daily. Monday is red beans, rice, and sausage which is my favorite! They always offer the full menu at anytime.

Maybe I am a bit partial to the family, but I have never had any complaints about the food. Always has been more than delicious and definately always fresh!

I live in Wisconsin and whenever I get a chance to visit Louisiana I always make it a point to go to A-Bear's. I love the small town, family style feel. The people are always nice. I especially love their homemade desserts and chicken gumbo. I have shared this gem with others and they too love the place. Many of my Harley friends stop on their road trips. Once they told me when they stopped they ate so much they were thankful for the rocking chairs out front where they sat for over an hour prior to getting back on the bikes. Luckly enough once to be there on a Friday night and had so much fun listening to the local Cajun band.

Well, apparently Houma's oldest restaurant did not meet the needs of the first writer. I think a place that has been in business for 46 years must be doing a little something right. I understand everyone has different taste and likes but after eating there for several years I have never found anything bad. There is never an empty chair for lunch. I like it as well as a lot of others.

One of those places you might see and decide not to go in, but like many of those places, you'll regret not going in. Service is friendly and quick. Food is oh-so-good. Cajun Style. Mostly Catfish and Shrimp, limited beef and chicken. Serving size was good for myself and my wife... not huge, but we didn't leave hungry either. Desserts looked good, but we passed because we didn't want to eat too much and feel miserable all night. Friday nights is a fun, live band- Cajun style old-timey music by a group of guys none of which could be a day under 60. Appears to be a local favorite. We're from out-of-state, but this was my favorite place outside the French Quarter (and a lot closer to where we were staying in Thibodaux) Definitely going back on our next trip to Louisianna!

We happened to be there on a Friday night. The locals invited us to join in the fun, dancing and having a great time! It's one of our most wonderful memories of visting Louisiana.
