Commander's Palace
Description
No list of New Orleans' restaurants would be complete without Commander's Palace. Voted "Best Restaurant in the United States" in 1996 by the James Beard Foundation, this fine southern establishment lives up to its reputation with exceptional cuisine and a dining experience you will not soon forget. One piece of the package here is the wait staff: the efficient servers are attentive rather than officious. Dining rooms vary in size from large to intimate in this modified 1880s Victorian house. Commander's Palace is particularly known for its turtle soup. Other standouts include the Mississippi Roasted Quail Stuffed with Creole Craw fish Sausage and for dessert, the Creole Bread Pudding Souffle. There is also an excellent wine list with suggestions for each entree. Enjoy 25-cent martinis during lunch. Jackets are recommended.
The food, location and atmosphere are great.. still a bit touristy but a must... The food is beautiful..and you want to linger...The Sunday Brunch is not disappointing
A great place to meet for lunch. 25 cents martinis or cosmos. Dinner is always good. What a wonderful New Orleans experience. All visitors should go at least once.
Call me crazy but the service is a bit pretentious and overly solicitous in my opinion. All the Brennan family restaurants seem to insist on a grand ceremony regarding service that feels phony. The food is consistently good though!
A New Orleans classic, but overrated. Stuffy atmosphere seems to be preferred by "old guard" members of the city. Food is good, but there are better dining options in the city with a much more inviting atmosphere.
