This delightfully old fashioned restaurant is a solid family oriented establishment. Simply casual without a lot of fuss is the overall picture of Joey K's. With patrons that vary from the single businessman to a couple with children, this is an eatery for all walks of life. Depending on the day of the week you can enjoy, corned beef and cabbage ,lamb shank and mustard greens or meatloaf. But never fear, on any given day you may have pan fried trout topped with crab meat and shrimp, the fabulous gumbo, fried seafood platters and a children's menu of grilled cheese or spaghetti with meatballs.
Great seafood platter is what I had. My sister had a simple cheeseburger. I like the atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and prompt. They didn't look at us af if we were lepers, being horses of a different color than most. Prices were a little on the expensive side, but well worth it.
Is this a house or a restaurant? It, literally, feels like someone’s home. It does not have a commercial feel like most restaurants. Amazing that commercial codes and residential codes blur in this city. Well, better for me. I get to sit on someone’s sidewalk on the most adorned Magazine Street, watch the traffic go by and sample New Orleans fare.
Gumbo and Oyster Po Boy
Nice gooey, very well seasoned, balanced gumbo. Deep fried Oyster, there must be the entire Gulf of Mexico in there, has never tasted so fresh, tender, and crispy.
Only drawback, the restroom is actually in the living, oh dining room, and I guarantee everyone can hear if beans was on the dinner menu. Oh, well this is New Orleans, what the hell. Great food, nice laid back attitude, nice sidewalk seating.
My grandson(5yrs.old) and I visited Joey K's on 4/10/10 and it was cool. The atmosphere was relaxing and laid back. The service was average. I ordered the Eggplant Parm., served over angel hair pasta. It was filling and very tasty. Foe dessert I ordered the bread pudding to go. It was so good, the kind my mama makes. I didn't like the sauce which was put in cups on the side, but the breadpudding was wonderful. I recommend this establishment to anyone looking to just relax, dress casual(I wore shorts and flip flops) and enjoy good food. The prices are resonable also.
