Breakfast items, including Belgian waffles with fresh berries, are available around the clock. Hop in at any time to be treated with a delicious fare!
We visited on 3/29/08 (a Saturday night) and I'm shocked at reading all the reviews because we were there at about 8 or 9 PM and there was no live entertainment. In fact, even though it was about 70 degrees and gorgeous weather, the joint wasn't busy at all (only about four tables full at any given time we were there). Service was good - our waiter was also the bartender. It must have been an off night for the Jazz Vipers. The ambiance was fun with all sorts of pictures, posters, mixed media and plasters of angels all over the walls. The floors, kitchen (from what we could see as we passed by to go to the restrooms) and bathroom were extremely dirty.
The food was really good. We had a starter of the sampler: Hummus, Spicy Tomato Spread, and Roasted Peppers & Feta served with pita triangles. It was amazing and we finished the whole thing. We both had pasta for our entree but for the life of us, even though it was only a week ago, we can't remember what the names are. Mine was a pesto sauce pasta dish and my husbands was a red sauce with Cajun spices. He said his was a bit too spicey but we had a pitcher of Cherry Wheat on tap so we were all good. No room for dessert. Our bill came to about $48 without tip. I mean, we left a tip but the $48 check did not include the tip. This was one of our favorite places to eat while in NOLA. Just don't look at the floor, the kitchen or the bathrooms.
I like the food, the service is so-so. I really go there for the ambiance -- the New Orleans Jazz Vipers play there most nights. There's no cover, so you can hear great Dixieland Jazz for whatever you care to drop in the hat when they come around.
Angeli's has been a favorite of mine for many years. You can always count on a delicious meal... at 1am... A great place for all you late night partiers! Granted, the menu is different after the storm... you can no longer get fries, pasta salad, or green salad with your sandwich... but it's still a good bargin. The hummus is delicious. Authentic greek food! The sandwiches are loaded with fresh vegtables (huge portabello mushrooms) and unique sauces. The wraps are terrific too. I've noticed the service is getting better too. That would be my only complaint, but the service last time was awesome. Our part was quite large too. Put this on the books when you're too drunk to drive home...
Angeli's is a meeting ground for all types of Decatur Street scenesters, with goths, trannies, and assorted regulars meeting for a late-night pizza and a quiet drink. A comfortable restaurant atmosphere sets it apart from the barrooms and pubs that populate Decatur.
When hunger strikes at inconvenient hours, Angeli, across from the French Market, is ready to serve from a 24-hour menu ranging from breakfast eggs and waffles to stuffed pita sandwiches, pizzas, sandwiches and big and satisfying burgers.
