Locals flock to this casual steakhouse for Whiskey Steak, prime rib and other classic cuts. Not in a steak mood? Try the King Crab leg dinner, a platter overflowing with big, meaty legs. All dinner entrees include potato, vegetable, bread and the freshest salad bar around. Rustic wooden tables, cowboy prints, low lighting and a flickering fireplace set the intimate atmosphere. The bar is especially inviting, with great service and an extremely generous pour.
The Whiskey Filet is amazing! The best I have had in a while, and I eat a lot of Filets! It is seasoned to perfection and cooked exactly the way I ordered it. The atmosphere is great too! Very warm and inviting!
Actually, it's not the Jack Daniel Steak it's the Whiskey Filet and Crab Legs you want to order. I am the owner's daughter and I am not just saying this because it is my dad's restaurant, but the Drover truly is the best steak house on Planet Earth. Buddy and Spike rule and will take great care of you upon your dining experience. The Onion Rings are delicious too! Peace!
Born & raised here, I'd never heard of the Drover, but a friend who came to town on business from Florida invited us and we've been loyal customers ever since. Because of the pricing, we don't get there often, but save it for special occasions only. :(
The whiskey filet has always been perfectly cooked, as well as any other cut ordered by our party. The chicken was great, too, but I keep going back for the filet. Everyone loves the large shrimp, too. The salad bar is not spectacular, but will do. At least, the items are fresh and the lettuce not browning. The bread is hot and fresh and always a big hit. They'll just keep bringing more, if you want, (and if you have room for it). The baked potatoes are HUGE, but always fluffy, tasty and hot.
The staff has always been very friendly, whether it's just 4 of us or a whole party. They've been very nice to the kids with us, too. It would be a total waste to have to order separately for the kids, when you're given so much that they can have a complete meal from your plate, too, and for the little ones, we've just asked for a separate plate and the staff has never had a problem doing that.
None of us are drinkers, so can't comment on that.
One draw-back is that their restroom is located down a flight of stairs. One person with us this summer has back problems and had a hard time navigating the steps, but said the wonderful dinner made up for it!
The lighting is rather low, but the quality of the food and service is fantastic!
I had lunch at The Drover with a colleague just the other day. The waitress routinely ignored our table. After I finished my meal, it was 15 minutes before she removed my plate, and I was the last one done. Then she went about her business without giving us our check. After another 10 minutes we were able to flag her down and ask for it; she didn't have it prepared.
As for my lunch itself, I ordered the luncheon steak. It was dry and tough, although pink on the inside as I'd ordered it. The fries that accompanied it were cold.
Just beware -- the food and service is not always the best at this place.
