I first met King Fong's in 1940. Been going there ever since.
I've been all over the world, including China, and NEVER had such subgum chow mein, egg foo yung.
Used to take home all the trimming to the family weekly for years. They're all fans to this day.
My favorite Chinese provider and you can not beat the price of an excellent meal that fills you but doesn't stuff you !
I've been going to King Fong's for 30+ years. I've eaten Chinese food all over the world and King Fong's is okay, certainly not the worst I have ever eaten. You go there for the whole experience - family owned and run, antique decor from china, and try their egg rolls - very unusual style. Look at the stone steps when you walk in, they have been worn down over the years - it's a neat place.
Everyone in Omaha, resident or visitor, should go to King Fong's. The food is excellent. Yes, it is old school. Not every dish is for every person, but, they have many delicious, freshly prepared choices. GO!
By far the worst chinese meal I have ever eaten probably in the top 5 worst meals period I have ever eaten my wife got the sesame chicken tasted like a lard and cornstarch omelet and I got the kung pao chicken cant figure out how you can make a water chestnut taste that bad bad news is the food was terrible good news is they give you plenty of it to dislike the restaurant was beautiful so i suggest ordering tea take in the building then you would be better off at mcdonalds.
I was excited to try this highly recommended restaurant due to these reviews. But 2 hours later and food that was served lukewarm left alot to be desired. Although the decor was nice and pleasant I will not recommend this restaurant to any friend or family member.
This place has the coolest decor of any restaurant of its kind. Let yourself feel like you're traveling back in time and you'll feel a real connection with the building.
It seems almost obvious to take dates to this place once you've seen the inside. However, my first experience was with a group of 4, and the menu had a family-style dinner for 4 that suited us perfectly. I must admit I was intimidated by the atmosphere the first time I poked my head in -- you open the doors and you find nothing but stairs leading up to a portal to the past. Don't sweat it... the servers are great and the menu goes so far as to include bbq ribs (no kidding!) amongst more traditional oriental-american semi-formal fare.
You should hit this place just to keep it alive so your kids can see it. Whenever I take new people here, they can't stop talking about it.
You'll pay no more than you would at your local Applebee's, but you'll go home with a better story and good reason to return.
I am going to come out and say it, GO TO KING FONG! This place is great! Everything about King Fong is worth the trip to downtown Omaha. Egg Foo Young is amazing. The service is unbelievable. Hand over $10 for the chinese meal of your life!
