Cafe Bel Ami, Wichita

Absolutely wonderful. I was there for a business dinner and I needed a vegetarian meal, so they made a superb entree for me that wasn't even on the menu! The atmosphere is warm and elegant and the staff is very professional.

Superb! that's how I would describe Cafe Bel Ami. I took my wife there last night, she was impressed by the ambiance, candle light dinner, a beutiful locale, the background music was perfect. The food was out of this world, I had the green tomato soup -by the way it was not green- the best, absolutely the best, my fillet Mignon, was perfect, cooked just like I requested, the flavor absolutely refined. Our waittres suggested Black Opal wine, I was pleasently surprised, very good. The service was excellent, Definitely a new favorite. This Cafe it's perfect for a Romantic Dinner (Date). It's downtonw Wichita, what's gives it a whole new meaning. I recomend it to anyone wanting to have a perfect Romantic Date, Celebrating an anniversary or special romantic ocation. I called ahead and made reservations, that will give extra points with your date, wife. It sounds great when you say, "I made reservations for tomorrow at 7:00, be ready! or something like that.

A new favorite place. The chicken and salmon fettoush are very good. So far I only ordered carry-out and have not sat down and ate at the restaurant so I can't comment on the service. But the food is good. I wouldn't recommend the onion soup, it tastes like pure oil to me. I had to throw it away ... Can't wait to go back and try their pasta dishes...

(((Read the complete review. The first one gave a 5 star rating))) After being away from Wichita for 25 years I was very pleased that there are restaurants like Cafe Bel Ami. Very nice room and attentive service without being suffocating. I had the potato soup and salmon with veggies. My sweetheart had ravioli and shrimp. Everything was prepared perfectly. Unfortunately I was still recovering from the flu and could not take advantage of the desserts. I certainly will on my return. I would like to see a bit more adherence to a dress code. Guys this is not the type of place for t-shirts and jeans. Somehow it doesn't fit into the ambience. Nice to be in a place playing Sinatra in the background. We shall return. Very romantic. FAST FORWARD to 26 May 2007. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance but someone had failed to write in my name. We were seated in an empty bar instead of the dining room. When the waitress finally acknowledged our presence the first words out of her mouth were "Are you ready to order?". No greeting, no request for a drink order, no review of the specials. We ordered drinks and upon her return she again asked " Now are you ready to order?". We placed our order mine being the seafood melange. It should have been the the seafood massacre. How do you burn lobster sauce? The meal was so unremarkable I don't even remember what else was on the plate. I do remember an overabundance of salt. Ambiance? It appears cafe Bel Ami has gone the route of not having any type of dress code as most of the patrons appeared to be dressed for a monster truck competition. Have a new ball cap with the bill in the back? This is the place to show it off. What happened? Hopefully this was a bad night but at the prices they charge there should never be a bad night. There are too many restaurants to choose from in Wichita. I may or may not visit this particular one again.

The food gets 5 stars, I eat here about 2 to 3 times a week and I never get tired of it. Hearty and delicious, it really hits the spot. The prices are great it is like eating gourmet food at micky d's prices. Eat here you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic Food...the beef medallions, while a big meal for lunch, are excellent.

I will keep this cafe in mind for a romantic evening for two. The soft lighting and soft atmosphere is just right for a night out with a significant other. However, not much choices to the menu; one must like chicken or seafood. I had the chicken with onions, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, a creamy sauce, and pasta. FABULOUS!!!! I also had a side Caesar Salad which was great also. They also have a great selection of wine ranging from $140 to $20 and also have just regular beer. I will go back!!!!

I came here with my mom and sister for lunch a few days ago. I had the Salmon Fettoush Salad. It was delicious. The salad was lightly dressed with a dressing that did not overtake the flavor of the salmon. The more of the salad you eat, the more flavors in the salad you discover. It was excellent. My sister had the chicken fettoush salad and her chicken was delectable. Beautiful restaurant. Good price. -not really suitable for children under 12-

Cafe Bel Ami is the probably the most romantic restaurant in all of Wichita. The space is small, but this actually just contributes to the cozy, romantic atmosphere. The decor is elegant and the lighting is perfect for a romantic dinner date with someone special. For our appetizers we had cocktail shrimp and artichoke dip which were both alright. They didn't rock my world or anything. The entrees and desserts are where Cafe Bel Ami really shines. The menu is kind of limited but the entrees are very deliciously prepared. My husband got the chicken Bel Ami which he said was outstanding. I opted for the grilled tilapia because I like fish dishes and will take advantage of every opportunity to eat well-prepared fish. The tilapia dish was outstanding! The creamy sauce complemented the fish quite well. I had a taste of my sister's chicken curry and it was prepared really well, too. I think all of their dishes are prepared with care. The delicious dishes make up for the limited entree choices. For dessert Jen and I both opted for some tiramisu while mom got the chocolate hazelnut confection. Our desserts were delicious. Brian says this is the best tiramisu he's ever had. As for me, I think all desserts are great. Anyway, this place rocks. I'm definitely going to ask Brian to take me there for Valentines Day!
