The brown-haired manager chick who has worked there since "forever" (friendly and polite as always, btw) seated me. THREE minutes LATER, she seats a party of four. Epic Fail server "CAM" bops on over to THAT table...I said "Excuse me; we were here, first." Fully IGNORING me, I AGAIN (louder, this time) said - "WE were here, FIRST." The party of four, apparently completely ignorant of their surroundings, blissfully unaware anyone but them exists on this planet, shot me the death glare. Confident they were undeserving of acknowledgment, I refused to validate them by staring back. SECOND Epic Fail: "CAM" then APOLOGIZED TO THEM! Furthermore, the brown haired manager chick ALSO visited THEIR table, to APOLOGIZE! (BIZARRO WORLD???) The brown haired manager chick had to tell Epic Fail to fill our water glasses...I asked the brown haired manager chick if today was our server's first day - not just at Mad Greek, but as a server in general, or, indeed, working with the general public, in ANY capacity. She acted as though she was completely unaware, totally clueless, as to any deficiency he had exhibited, whatsoever. I can only imagine the party of four was likely COMPED for their meal, in addition to the two completely absurd apologies afforded by CAM, the EPIC FAIL server and the brown haired manager chick! They certainly left one HELL of a MESS, behind, for the poor busboy! WELCOME BACK, KU STUDENTS! Customer Service is DEAD, at Mad Greek! $21.50, for THIS kind of treatment??? EPIC FAIL!!!

Best kept secret of Lawrence! I don't feel it is overpriced and believe that you get what you pay for. The menu is awesome, the food is amazing. I couldn't make it better at home and everything tastes as if your grandma spent all day making your dinner. Delicious! Can't wait to go back!

Cramped, crowded and overpriced. I can't emphasize the last one enough: overpriced, overpriced, overpriced.

I ate there only once on Mother's day several years ago and our party of 10 had to wait a long time (understandably). But when we ordered off the menu our orders were wrong and we our kids were feeling sick I asked for a doggie bag and they wouldn't give us one. They charged both our kids full price to eat off the buffet and they wouldn't let us take any of it home even though we hardly had time to sit down and touch our food. I tried to explain to the manager who was stressed out and they were rude and told us of their policy and threw our food out. Haven't been back since. I expected them to be more understanding and reasonable giving us a refund of half or something to take home when their are homeless in back of the restaurant waiting for handouts.

I've been eating here since the mid-90s (even when it was over on 23rd st.) and have loved it. I still like the place but, likely due to food prices, they have changed their Chicken Alfredo, which is a dish I look forward to eating a few times each year. Gone are the strips of grilled chicken with a light breading. Now they use what look like their chicken strips and simply cut them up and mix them in with the pasta/cheese sauce. Sigh. Sad. When I asked about the changes, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Still, it's a great place to take people from out of town or go on a date.

I’m something of a Food Network junkie. Guy Fieri’s review of The Mad Greek’s Restaurant in Baker, CA on his Diners, Drive-in and Dives show recently caught my interest. During a drive between Arizona and California I decided to take a side trip and treat myself to a “Greek experience”. Once through the front door I was confronted with a chaotic environment where no-one greets the customer. That meant I was on my own to figure out the accepted routine for getting something to eat. A friendly customer, obviously more experienced with the place than I was, offered some quick instructions to get me started. At the order counter, where three clerks at three registers shouted repeated orders to the crowd to “make three lines”, I stood shoulder to shoulder with dozens of others who apparently were little more familiar with the routine than I was. My order, two Gyro sandwiches with a water and one of the Mad Greek’s alleged famous strawberry milkshakes was quickly entered into the register and I was given a plastic “tent” with a number which I assumed I was supposed to place on my table; if I could find one. Finding the water was easy enough. It’s part of the self service soft drink dispensing machine near the registers. I sent my wife on a mission, water in hand, to find a place to set up the numbered plastic tent. I couldn’t find the milkshake dispenser. Still in “shoulder to shoulder” mode, I finally realized that they were making milkshakes at another counter and it appeared that I’d have to stand in line there to get my shake. It took about ten minutes for my shake to find its way to the front of the queue but it did finally come across the counter as number 45 and I bumped my way through the crowd in search of my wife and, I hoped, a table. I finally found her in the rear of the crowded, chaotic dinning room; she had a table and was already started on her Gyro as I sat down to join her. Greek music (at least I think that’s what it was) was playing in the background behind the noise of customer conversation, employee dialogue and typical noises generally associated with crowds trying to get their hot dogs and beer during the seventh inning stretch at a major league ball game. At this point, I figured I had earned the right to at least taste the Gyro and enjoy my milkshake. OK, so the initial experience was a bit nerve wracking. But we came here for the food, not the atmosphere. The Gyro was, in a word, excellent. Tender slices of perfectly seasoned lamb with fresh lettuce and tomato wrapped in tender pita bread and served with a little plastic cup of Tzatziki sauce on the side. I’ve had as good at some other Greek restaurants but I don’t believe I’ve ever had a better Gyro. The strawberry milkshake, created using soft-serve ice cream mixed with a rich strawberry sauce and topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of additional strawberry sauce was a real treat. Perhaps not the best strawberry milkshake in the world but worthy of much praise just the same. Give it a try but be sure to wear your best suit of patience.

I work across the street and I love the food so I usually end up eating here every week or two. Gyros, Spaghetti and meatballs, calamari, toasted ravioli and the hamburger are my favorites. My mom likes the Musaka and the salmon.

I'm 24, I've been going to Mad Greek since I was about 6 years old. We would go at least once to twice a month. They are the best greek place I've ever gone too. I've lived in NYC and CA and KS, and no greek restaurant has come close to this one. They have great Hot Feta Cheese Dip, Gyros, Spinach Pie, Dolmas. I get Hot Feta dip every time I go. They also have excellent Tiramisu and coffee for after dinner. They do not rush you so you could stay there as long as you want. It's a great place to go with family, friends, or on a romantic date. I love this place I have so many great memories there. Whenever I think of home, this place comes to mind. Every time I go back to KS, I make it a point to eat there.
