A Great Place for Breakfast
First Watch Restaurant opens for breakfast and stays open until 2:30 in the afternoon. It does not open for dinner in the evenings. It doesn't need to. Even for those of us who reluctantly gulp down some toast (or less) for breakfast, First Watch is a great place to visit. The food is good, the portions are plentiful, and the service is friendly and efficient.
A visit to First Watch begins with being greeted by the hostess, who escorts you to cozy tables or booths large enough to fit three adults side by side. The dining room is deceptively large. It seems the place is always busy, yet there is never a wait of more than a few minutes. Perhaps it is only imagination, but the atmosphere seems enhanced by people who appear to always be in a good mood. This is usually not the place for intense conversations, romantic interludes, or life changing decisions. It is a place to sit back and enjoy good food with family and friends. It is pleasing to note that First Watch appeals to a diverse group, with older citizens, college students, parents with young children, and business folk all stopping in for a healthy meal.
There is a pitcher of ice water waiting for you at your table. When you look at the menu, you notice it is as diverse and complete as the menu of a much larger establishment. There are numerous breakfast offerings and a plentiful selection of light meals if you are more inclined to order lunch. Fruit, veggie dishes, both simple and elaborate breakfasts, or tasty sandwiches are all available and it is occasionally hard to choose what you'd most like. (If I order lunch, I sometimes try to convince the person I'm with to order a favorite sandwich of mine and trade half of it for half of mine. That way I don't have to decide what to order when the options are so good.) I'm also pleased to announce that V-8 is a juice option.
The meals are filling but never heavy. I am always satisfied while never feeling as if I'd over-eaten. The staff never makes you feel rushed--you are welcome to sit and chat for as long as you wish after you're done eating. When it's time to pay the bill and leave, the food is reasonably priced, which offers the opportunity for return visits.
I think anyone who eats here will want to come back soon--whether they enjoy eating breakfast or not.
