This location used to be fantastic but was recently run into the ground by terrible management. Hopefully it should reopen soon now that the poor managers have been kicked out for good.

over the months breakfast was very poor, the pancakes were greasy the service was very lousy as envy tips waitress present you with the menu with the standard water rondavue with cold water especially when it was really cold outside. the enviorment was like Aunt Jemaiah bording school with mess hall arrayed with wood tables and wood seating.after I was done I paid my check a snotty half teen was very unfriendly and never said thank you and ask me to come back again, typical behavior of lawrence teens. this is one place I will not come back to (local business)again.

Very nice Place to eat.
I really like First WAtch because their food taste fresh and the dishes are very clean. The servers are friendly but as someone else said, they do act very rushed. They don't check on you as much as some other restaraunts, but atleast they are nice. I am an African American and a lot of restaraunts in Lawrence don't treat us the way they should, so I give First watch overall 4 stars! I'll go back again.

Great food, decent service.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/27/07
Everyone working in the place seemed friendly and at ease. The service is lacking in sincerity, all of the times I've been I've felt either ignored or rushed at some point during the dining experience. The food is excellent, very good quality and quantity for the price. The atmosphere is clean and has good lighting, but the decor is a little run down.

A Great Place for Breakfast
By Michael, 9/11/06
First Watch Restaurant opens for breakfast and stays open until 2:30 in the afternoon. It does not open for dinner in the evenings. It doesn't need to. Even for those of us who reluctantly gulp down some toast (or less) for breakfast, First Watch is a great place to visit. The food is good, the portions are plentiful, and the service is friendly and efficient. A visit to First Watch begins with being greeted by the hostess, who escorts you to cozy tables or booths large enough to fit three adults side by side. The dining room is deceptively large. It seems the place is always busy, yet there is never a wait of more than a few minutes. Perhaps it is only imagination, but the atmosphere seems enhanced by people who appear to always be in a good mood. This is usually not the place for intense conversations, romantic interludes, or life changing decisions. It is a place to sit back and enjoy good food with family and friends. It is pleasing to note that First Watch appeals to a diverse group, with older citizens, college students, parents with young children, and business folk all stopping in for a healthy meal. There is a pitcher of ice water waiting for you at your table. When you look at the menu, you notice it is as diverse and complete as the menu of a much larger establishment. There are numerous breakfast offerings and a plentiful selection of light meals if you are more inclined to order lunch. Fruit, veggie dishes, both simple and elaborate breakfasts, or tasty sandwiches are all available and it is occasionally hard to choose what you'd most like. (If I order lunch, I sometimes try to convince the person I'm with to order a favorite sandwich of mine and trade half of it for half of mine. That way I don't have to decide what to order when the options are so good.) I'm also pleased to announce that V-8 is a juice option. The meals are filling but never heavy. I am always satisfied while never feeling as if I'd over-eaten. The staff never makes you feel rushed--you are welcome to sit and chat for as long as you wish after you're done eating. When it's time to pay the bill and leave, the food is reasonably priced, which offers the opportunity for return visits. I think anyone who eats here will want to come back soon--whether they enjoy eating breakfast or not.
