Sadly I have found out this wonderful establishment has closed its doors after 35 years.
The had the best food in springfield! No other chinese place in town do what they could do!
Not only did they have the best food, but also the best and friendliest service in town.
I ate there at least once or twice a week and had the pleasure to try almost everything on the menu.
No one does Sweet & sour chicken like this place did!
I'll miss it :(
No trip to SGF-MO would be complete for me without a trip to Bamboo Inn! This little place at the corner of Grand and Glenstone has become an icon of the Queen City of the Ozarks. Once known as th Grand Cafe it became the Bamboo Inn, specializing in Cashew or Sweet/Sour Chicken and it developed from there. The food they offer is good and it is an SGF icon! It is sort of a joke but I don't think my parents or friends would ever forgive me if I didn't demand to get take-out at least once from Bamboo Inn when I am in town! If you haven't been at least once --- GO!
Bamboo Inn is the greatest! And yes, it is true, SO was here! Chery and I were students at Missouri State from 1973 (the year Bamboo Inn opened) until 1977. In our visit this week, we sat and talked with Mr. Lo who opened the BI and invented the famous Springfield-style Cashew Chicken that so many others have tried to copy. He is now 82 and retired, but hangs out in Springfield 6 months a year. The Bamboo Inn is the same as it was 30 years ago...which is what makes it all good! I can't even recognize a rise in the prices. Everyone should go to the Bamboo Inn!!!
I have been going to this restaurant every time I go back to SWMO and when I lived down there constantly since 1983. I have never had bad food and never had bad treatment. It is the all time best fast food style americanized Chinese food ever. I can usually tell when the Cashew Chicken content in my blood gets low, and I am drawn to the mecca that is at Glenstone and Grand. Do yourself a favor, give them a chance to wow you with their food.
