I have eaten bbq from this place three times in the last twenty years. The first time was really all I needed, I thought the brisket was average, you could have squeezed a cup of grease out of the cold french fries and I thought it was overpriced. About five years ago I tried it again and again the food was average at best, service was poor and price was high. Today my son picked up carry out, one slab of ribs was more like jerky, the other was fair, lots of gristle in the sliced brisket, the potatoes in the potato salad were underdone and it took 20 minutes to get the food that was already prepared and just had to be boxed.
All I can say is never again, better bbq can be found all over town like Whole Hog or Bandanas.
Aweful! Where do I begin. The service was so slow and unfriendly. It took over 30 min to get our food and we were the only people in there. We kept seeing cars coming and going through drive thru but we were never getting our food. When we got it the food was cold, fries and sandwiches. Some of us ordered the same things and nothing was consistent one sandwich was on a bun one was on plain white bread that looked like it had been soaked in water first. To top it all off the window by the smoker was open and all the smoke was blowing back into the resturant, we could hardly breath. The kids all had their shirts over their faces and our eyes were watering. Then the price was way to much for the quality of food we got. A sandwich and fries cost the same as a sandwich with two sides, doesn't make since. We will never go back.
Read all the reviews first and saw an even mix for and against. I just had their BBQ Brisket And BBQ pork with Baked beans, colesleaw and potato salad. If I had to give it a number rating I would give it a solid 10 out of 10. The meat was very flavorfull and tender. I personally prefered the pork over the beef, but both were supurb. The sides were truely amazing. The baked beans were amazing. The potato salad was above par. I personally liked the coleslaw the best-perhaps the best coleslaw I have ever had. Combined with the compelling story of the establishment, this is a must try resaurant for the Springfield resident. PS. Gave some pork to my two year old and he is now very agitated that there is no more. High Praise indeed !
I took some of my out of town friends here. Always herd it was great. Not good barbeque at all.Two of the guys are what I consider some of the best pit masters around. Needless to say I was embarased. Would someone please open a good barbeque place in springfield.
The way BBQ is supposed to be. Friendly, family owned. Good food, although the prices have taken a jump in the last few months (hasn't everything?).
Good people with good food. Looks the way a BBQ shack should look and smell.
Don't know where these other 2 people ate, but I thought the place was pretty bad. our sandwiches were cold, the baked beans tasted gamey, and our waitress had a moustache. I would say hit up the Rib Crib before dining at Crosstown.
Oh my Gosh!! What incredible BBQ - The ribs fall off the bone and you can taste that great smoky flavor. All of the food, ribs, beef, pork are great. The history that makes this place so famous is a bonus of what BBQ used to taste like years ago. We love it - the people are friendly - the food is great and this place is rockin!!
