This used to be the only Chinese restaurant my niece would eat at. Tonight we went for dinner and her chicken was cold, the rice was hard, the noodles tasted bland. The server was great, but the food sucked. The spring rolls were COLD! Won t be going back.
I've eaten at the Oriental House six times this year. I avoided them for years because they were awful in the mid-'90s... always cold, tasteless, etc. I finally tried again last year (2009), at the request of my mother, and was relieved to find that they are much better now! You have about an 80% chance of getting hot food at any given time, the service is usually satisfactory (and I'm picky, so that's pretty good.), the selection is above average, the atmosphere/music/lighting is very nice and I will certainly be going back. They are slightly over-priced for the mediocre quality, but, who isn't these days? They're open til 9pm on Sat.
I have always liked the oriental house. I have always recieved good service, but one night my husband and I got take out and as i was eating mine I found a cockroach in my food. It looked to have been cooked halfway into the coating of the chicken. I will never eat there agian and i will let all my family and friends know about this!
Oriental House is a good sized family restaurant that is convienently located on the southern end of Neosho Blvd.
This restaurant offers a wide variety of
buffet-style food. The service is very friendly and does continually come back to fill drinks and other requests.
The problem is the quality and the price. Oriental House used to continually refresh their buffet and provide hot, freshly made food. Sadly, that quality has diminished. If you arrive at the restaurant directly before major rush times, such as noon or dinner, you will probably receive fresh food. Unfortunately, if you arrive later than either of those times the food tends to sit and wait until you arrive.
It is also a very pricey buffet and the price tends to change based on time of day (or whim?). I can honestly say that I have never been exactly sure how much I was going to pay before I went to the cashier.
Gone are the glory days, but perhaps with a change in the economy it will see them again.
If you want variety...it has it. If you want fresh ...you will have to be early. If you want space for a group...you've got it.
If you want fresh anytime, quaint, economic, yet limited variety, try the small oriental restaurant by Blue Ribbon Realty (I've forgotten the name).
If you want fresh anytime, some variety, and good prices, try Peking Garden north on Neosho Blvd.
I think this is the best chinese food I have ever had! The food is always fresh on the buffet, and tastes homemade, not instant/frozen. The service there is also amazing, so friendly and always smiling.
this place has everything! when i went there they had sushi, shrimp, crab claws, even ice cream, and a lot more food. this place has great service, great food thats warm, and a great atmosphere. i recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking great chinese food for a great price.i plan to go there again very soon!
