I travel all over the country and enjoy a really good meal whenever possible. LulaBelle's chef did an outstanding job on my strip steak, which was stuffed with crab and cream cheese, and a mushroom demi sauce. One of the best that I have ever had. Our waitress was outstanding as well. I am planning to return to the area next summer, one of the reasons why is to have another meal here. It is that good.
Lulabelle's was great- when you first looked at the menu prices seemeed a little high but after the meal came the food was worth it. Every meal comes with boiled shrimp- no need for another appetizer. I had the prime rib it was awesome as was my son's cannoloni. My husband's pork was just a little dry. The house salad was great. Would definitely recommend this place.
Let me preface my comments by saying I have never been to the bed and breakfast - this review concerns the restaurant only.
As for fine dining in Hannibal, there aren't many options. For a small, rural-area restaurant, the food is great. It's not quite up to larger city standards, but it's the best restaurant in town. Honestly, it is a little pricey, but worth the money. People tend to forget that the price of the entrees includes peel & eat shrimp, fresh baked bread, and a salad in addition to the meal.
Every meal I've had there has been flavorful and absolutely delicious. I'd recommend the chicken scallopini or the shrimp scampi - their pork dishes are excellent as well. Pasta is the only thing I feel they're weak on - I haven't enjoyed the pasta nearly as much as everything else on the menu.
I'd be interested in knowing what their catering is like - if it's good, I'd really like them to cater my wedding.
I am from Hannibal and took my husband back there for the first time. He acknowledged that the frinedliness, relaxed nature and overall moral fiber of the people he said was 'palpable' from California, where on the roads and highways, there are NO police and lots of stressors and anarchy going on. WE LOVED Lulubelles. Comfy, cozy, with a jacuzzi in every room. The food was really good too. Several of their own recipes, like the portabella mushrooms, was awesome, as was the early bird special for $11.00 which included shrimp for an appetizer, a nice salad, fresh baked bread, and awesome blackberry wine. Cant wait to go back. Reccommend to anyone except those with their noses in the air.....you know who you are.
My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Lula Belle's for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the Safari Room, which was a themed room in Belle's Secret (an offshoot of the B&B itself). The room itself was very comfortable and offered a tremendous amount of privacy. Each of the two mornings we had breakfast, the owner was there to take care of us. Very friendly guy.
I've seen some posts about the trains. Yes, they do come through that area, but it did not detract from our very memorable experience. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a nice private weekend getaway. Belle's Secret is awesome!
For the type of place that it is, this place was great and very much affordable. If you are looking for all of the fine amenities, then...maybe you should consider the Hilton. Going to a rustic river town and finding a treasure like this is priceless. Breakfast was really good and our host was very friendly. We'll be back again!
The menu is blah. I ordered a tuna steak sandwich rare. It was supposed to be grilled but it came out blanched. It was served with tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato. You would think they'd serve it on some other bun with different garnishes, not ones typically served with hamburgers.
My fiance(boyfriend at the time)and I spent a weekend here and were very impressed with this place. Looking at the description as it used to be a brothel I was a little reserved but decided since it was my first time in a B&B I gave it a try. Boy was it wonderful. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food is TERRIFFIC!!!!! It is in a great location with the river behind the hotel and now we are planning on trying to go back this year and maybe get married there.
