I have shopped at county market for many of years. You can not ask for better service. The meat dept is great, they have the best quality of meat in the Hannibal area, and the meat manager Donny has great customer service skills. I give County Market an A+ in the meat dept!!!!!!
I agree with the other reviewers about the meat - the quality of County Market's meat is great. Their alcohol selection is also the best in Hannibal, although a bit overpriced on wine and beer.
The first reason they only get 3 stars is because the rest of the store is horribly overpriced, at least for the items I buy regularly. They also lack an adequate organic/health food section, which wouldn't be an issue, except they also refuse to order anything special, even after I offered to pay for the items in advance. So I have to drive to Quincy's County Market to get specific foods for my stepson's food allergies.
The second reason is their floral department. I had them design a few simple things for my wedding (corsages and smaller items) and they didn't look that great. My wedding party wore them, but I was disappointed. The floral associate was very nice and helpful, but she wasn't very skilled. The prices were very reasonable, and I'd heard good things, but I guess you get what you pay for in the end.
great buys-clean stores-brightly lit and well designed.a store I shop at quite regularly.I buy 95%of my meat from them.I buy a month at a time on the meats. The packaging is always clean an the meats are of high quality. They compete with Walmart for my money on the produce though they do have a lot of yummy things to purchase from produce.their deli is not like Walmart as I love the Walmart deli but County Market's deli has more choices from the deli case and they serve you a good meal at a fair price.Where one falls short the other steps in.County Market is THE place for quality meats!I go to save a lot and Aldi's for the rest of the groceries but that is just me.I will go back to County Market this week as their sales are to hard to resist on their meats this week(chicken breasts 99 cents a lb!)pork chops and hamburger on sale also at very low prices-but what really matters is how well they handle the stocking of the sale items as when yo get there after a certain time (late in the evening) the selection can run a bit low and none will be set out until the next morning so I have come to understand.I refuse to buy my beef liver there though as WalMart has a wonderfully, very tender melt in your mouth brand of liver they sell.I only get it there and I have learned to buy extra of it as it goes FAST at my house smothered in onions! I love County Market and LOVE their service and the wonderful people who work so hard there....
My review is not on the Floral department. I see alot of these reviews where in 2007, 2008 this review is 2013. Things have changed alot there and not for good one for the way outstanding prices they have, but the far by worst department in the store is the (MEAT Department). They have most nasty looking and unfresh meat in Hannibal Mo. They stop cutting custom steaks for people. They push their meat to the furtherest date until it spoils and customer gets the meat home and ready to cook supper and the meat is spoiled. I have had bring spoiled hamburger and chicken back to them several times in the past year or so. I was over in the pork section and found meat out dated over (10 months) out. The lunch meat section seen meat out dated 3 or 4 months out dated. The hamburger is always real bloodly and they mite be spoiled or close to expire date of day you buy it or has expired. I have tryed to talk them to get better quality meat from them, but have been unsuccessful doing it. They are just not taken pride in what they are selling and they are probably playing with the expired dates and thats way they are selling spoiled meat. Its a shame they got this way, because they use to have good quality and fresh meat there. If I had to grade them on their meat department I give them (F). Also watch their dairy department also. Look at the dates close because they are not rotating their stock properly. I have seen milk 3 or4 days out dated and still trying to sell it. County market milk has awful strong tast to it I think. Praire Farms is alot better even thou it is 20 cents or more higher. I won t by meat at walmart or county market anymore so I have chosen to go to HyVee in Quincy instead of shopping local. Better quality and alot more pride in their products and meat. We lost our Krogers and they were high on prices, but least you got good meat and dairy products there. Good luck if you shop at county market in hannibal.
