An old bank building in University City was converted several years ago to a combination root beer brewery and family restaurant, Fitz's draws an enthusiastic crowd of college students, adults and children. Diners can watch the root beer making and bottling processes through a large glass partition, all the while enjoying good pub food such as hamburgers, pizzas, etc. The root beer, a revered St. Louis formula that dates back to an old roadside stand from the 1940s, is terrific, too.
Had a Bison burger and my wife had the pull pork. Both very tasty. My sweet potatoe fries (waffles) was disappointing, but my wife's regular fries were good. The root beer on tap was excellent.
Service was very good. We visited mid sunday afternoon.
Service was terrible I reported my concern to the owner due to management was very rude but never received a response. The Woman manager very unprofessional and focused on other issues other than my grandmothers concern I love the loop but I will never visit Fitz's again. Cold food and wasn't made as ordered
In our second family trip to St Louis in two years, this restaurant was on our must-do-again list and didn't disappoint!
Kids and adults are treated well. As other reviews indicated, portions are on the larger side of normal. If you like craft soda, you'll be happy with the free refills.
Wait staff was very good on both visits, but we had quicker service on the second visit because we arrived after most of the lunch hour crowd was already gone.
Maybe you wouldn't pick this place for a cheap quick, lunch or dinner, but if you're looking for special, fun place bar and grill (plus a few more options) food, but you don't want the smoke and bar-like atmosphere, this is a great find!
For families with infants and toddlers... Restrooms are small and not so convenient for diaper changing.
Best root beer ever! The food is very good as well. I have been to Fitz's countless times and I have never once been disappointed. The food comes out quick, the service is good, and the atmosphere is unique and fun. It's a great place to get a drink with your friends or to take your family to.
Fitz's is one of my favorite reasons to go to the Loop. If you go there at a busy time (such as Saturday evening), you can probably expect to wait for a table, but it will be worth it. The atmosphere is quite lively and fun. The crowd mostly cosists of families and college students (an unlikely mix, but at Fitz's, it works). The food, especially their specialty hamburgers, is awesome. Come hungry, because you will definitely leave with a full stomach. Also, be sure to order a bottomless mug of their brewed-on-site root beer or cream soda.
