Awesome! Atmosphere is great. Pricing is good. The cuts of fish are really great and fresh. I love sushi places that give you a rather large peice of fish and barely any rice. My coworker and I went there for lunch and loved it! I got the sushi lunch special and she got a very good traditional, authentic noodle soup with peices of shrimp, sweet potato and zucchini tempora. I really love this place and I am excited that I found a new sushi place near my work. I really do search for authentic great Japanese places and hate the chains. I will be comming back to Ichiban many more times in the future!!! Love it!
Alright I would say that I really love sushi and have been to a couple of sushi restaurants around the St.Louis, and neighboring counties, even two in Southern Illinois. I would have to say the fish to rice ratio is about perfect in their sushi and rolls for about 80% of the sushi/rolls menu I have tried. They are always fresh and a nice cool temperature. The waitresses are very friendly and engaging and even the sushi chef. Well lit, more of a quieter atmosphere, the place is always clean and even sitting at the bar and watching the tv is a pleasant experience. by far out of the other 11 places that i have tried and compared rainbow rolls, and most peices of sushi to. I would place this place in the top 3.
It was my first time at this place and I was very satisfied. When you walk in, you think there is someone to sit you. But when the hostess appeared she just said sit anywhere. We sat down and she gave us two sheets of paper and a menu. I checked the snow crab california roll and my friend checked the vegetarian roll. He also asked for the edamame. We noticed that they had light salted soy sauce, which is nice since I have high blood pressure. She brought out the edamame and it was pretty good. My friend enjoyed it very much, but it was my first time trying it. Large soy pods with about 2 to 3 soybeans probably boiled. It was sprinkled with a little salt. The hostess came out with some small plates and I put the light salt soy sauce in this plate. I took out the chop sticks and tasted the soy sauce. It was very good. The hostess brought out the food and it was very good. I would recommend this place to anyone that enjoys sushi.
So this was my first time trying sushi because my brother dragged me there. Also, keep in mind that I'm not big on fish so I tried the veggie combo sushi and it was fantastic! We also had the chicken teriyaki and that was really awesome as well! Maybe next time I'll be more adventurous and try some of the other stuff but all in all I think it was a great experience. The atmosphere was very chill, just good food in a relaxing environment. Definitely would recommend!
Love Ichiban!! What a family type atmosphere and the Sushi is the Best. Very Fresh large pieces compared to other area bars. Try the oyster shots and the spicy scallop. Love the bistro roll - so cool and fresh tasting.
Park does a great job with the food and the show is fun to watch. The rest of the family eats the cooked items(poor things no sushi). They love the soups, chicken treiyaki and the salmon teriyaki is the best I've ever had. Try the Glenn roll. It is not on the Menu but Park will get one for you. We have found our only Sushi restaurant in St. Louis.
My family and I ate here and had less than awesome sushi. Granted, we're from So Cal and know what *real* sushi is, and this was not so good, which was a huge bummer because we were in the mood for it! Small portions, tiny amounts of filling, not real fresh tasting, etc. The fish on mine were more like room temp than chilled, which is how I prefer my raw fish. Cold and fresh. Mom got an udon soup bowl that she liked, though. The fiance was not so thrilled about his chicken teriyaki (he doesn't do sushi). With so many other good Japanese restaurants within a 2-mile radius, this is definitely on my don't-go list.
I love Ichiban! They have some excellent sushi! I am really fond of the crazy roll! I think it is one of the best on the menu. I live right down the road from them and eat there all the time. A lot of times I pick it up to go. If you do get it to go, make sure you are clear about what you want. I have gotten the wrong things a few times, I am not sure if the waiters that answer the phone know the menu all that well. Other than that, it is a great sushi restaurant!
After being badgered into eating Sushi for the first time on Mother's day by my college sophomore daughter, I became hooked immediately! Went to 4 Sushi restaurants in the course of 24 hours, Ichiban included. Ichiban was by far the best I had. The service was great & the ambiance was welcoming and comfortable for a newbie like me. I made a take out order to eat for a midnight snack;....it didn't make it to 10pm. I'm going back today, on the bus, because my car is kaput! Superb!
My wife and I really enjoy trying new sushi spots around town, but we always end up back at Ichiban. Great food, good original drinks and a family friendly, intimate atmosphere... we highly recommend it!
