Description

The ambiance of understated elegance at Chez Leon is reminiscent of an authentic Parisian bistro. For an appetizer try the excellent pate; a different variety made fresh each night. The robust French onion soup (gratinee) is another traditional hit. The menu features a wealth of splendid entrees, notably the red snapper with the chef's special red sauce and the beef fillet. See their website for further information.

Tres Horrible!!! I read some of the negative reviews before making a reservation and I should have listened. Although seated somewhat immediately (at the reservation time), we waited 20 minutes just to order. I understand that restaurants can get busy, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Thankfully we had good company, because it took us more than an hour to received our appetizers after we ordered (my wife said 90 minutes). We were ready to leave and the waiter placated us and assured us that he would keep everything on track for the rest of our meal. It was nice of him to say, but he didn't follow through. It really bothers me that I actually paid for our meal. It was approximately $250 and we had to take our dessert to go because it was 10 o'clock and it had not yet arrived. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Bravo! Try the excellet seared foie gras, sautéed veal medallions in white wine with mushrooms. Or the pan-fried trout meunière and mussels in wine with shallots and garlic one of my favorites. A perfect finish to a meal here is sitting down and trying any of their fine works of kitchen art. We love this place.

We dined here last night. It was okay. My Salad Lyonnaise and desert of Tarte Tatin were exceptional. My Steak Frites Maitre D'Hotel was tough and not particulary flavorful. Wine and beer were very expensive. One of our party accidentally spilled a full Duvel. After waiting for about ten minutes for our waiter to offer to replace it, we realized he would just need to order and pay for another one. We were also seated close to the maitre d' and front door, which made for a chilly dining experience. So, the food was both good and bad. The service and seating were adequate but far from exceptional. The price was high. Despite sticking to the 3 plates for $40 and averaging 2 to 3 beers/glasses of wine per person, our total bill was just shy of $600 for 7 people.

I love Chez Leon. It's very eclectic, the menu offers great choices, the food is prepared and served very elegantly ... a great place to take someone whom you want to impress! Outstanding traditional french cuisine!

excellent

My date and I actually order one prix fixe and the kitchen actually split up the entrees on two plates!! right on!! The french onion soup is the best in the world!!! I had the veal in a beurre blanc and the plate also had haricots verts, glazed carrots, ratatouille....It was very good, on my next return to st. louis I willl make it a point to return there. The maitre'd d came around several times and the service was very attentive.

not worth it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/08
We had a party of 13. Our 3 course plats(38$) took 3 and 1/2 hours. We had to ask for water, rolls and tea. The only thing that came often was the wine. The owner sat nearby and never came to the table. Very over-rated for the money. Try somewhere else.

I will not return!
By Concerned consumer, 2/12/08
I went there for my friend's birthday party. He made the reservation and told them that it was his birthday. The service was not that great. We had a party of 15 and they had us at three different tables. My friend was served last and had to wait an additional 20 minutes for dessert. I asked the owner about this and he made up a story about where he was from France. More less, he could not find a valid excuse. He said that the host was always served last and that is his policy. I told him that he was not the host and that it was his birthday. He apologized, however did not do anything about it. I ordered a pork dish and it was very dry. I will not return to this establishment. And to add fuel to the flame, the waiter gave the entire bill to my friend. This place is a complete joke

Like being in Paris
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/06
This place is as close to Paris as you can get without jet lag!! Leon and his staff make you feel at home. The place is warm and welcoming, without being pretentious. Great food, great wine list, great atmosphere - what more can one ask for!!

Best restaurant I have ever been to!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/29/06
Chez Leon was nothing short of perfect. All three courses - salad, entree, and dessert - were absolutely phenomenal. This is my new favorite restaurant! Go at night and sit outside. You'll feel like you are at a Parisian cafe. The tables have white linen tablecloths and candles - very romantic. Great place for a night out with someone you love! The menu is in French and English; this is the perfect restaurant to take any Francophile. I ordered "salade lyonnaise","steak-frites", and "creme brulee". Everything was great, I cannot compliment Chez Leon enough.
