Great food and atmosphere, but management is horrible. I had small issue, and the older lady (owner or manager) was rude, dismissive, and could not have cared less about my issue.
Too bad, as I love the location, but will never give them my money again. If this is how the owners and managers treat customers, my business will go elsewhere
decent food/drink, but service is poor. some of the staff is ok, but many often make you feel like you are interrupting them when you order or ask for assistance. i encountered one young man who was horribly rude on a number of occasions. i'm a resident of soulard & stopped going there because of my last encounter with him. i'm not a picky customer by any means... i'm the type that would get a wrong order, but eat it anyway because i wouldn't want to upset the waiter! my mom had a broken foot & we were having a hard time searching for our own seating. when i asked him for help, he got very upset & then left us standing until another customer let us have their seating at some point. he was rude the rest of the time we were there & never even apologized. hate to give an establishment with good food such a bad review, but service is key, especially in soulard!!!
Not only do they have great coffee and a charming atmosphere, the Soulard Coffee Garden supports local St. Louis artists.
The month of May is National Photo Month and the Soulard Coffee Garden is pleased to celebrate National Photo Month by hosting an exhibit of two St. Louis photographers: Dallas Moses and Jane Linders. These two have teamed up to present an eclectic mix of alternative process photography, sprinkled with conventional photography throughout the coffee house. Dallas Moses is a professional Broadcast Art Director and Designer. He also runs Orange Monkey Studio, a freelance design and fine art effort. His studio is located in the Koken Art Factory. . . Linders has exhibited extensively in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri as well as the Smithsonian Museum. She is a tireless image maker, whose work can be seen in galleries, books, and magazines.
The opening reception is April 20, 2008 from 3 to 5pm. This unusual coffee house/ restaurant occupies two levels of a vintage renovated building located in the heart of historical Soulard neighborhood. Casual, yet upscale, this quiet little coffee house is full of character, complete with a lovely brick-lined courtyard garden in back.

This is an odd place. They have wonderful food but mediocre coffee. In fact, on weekends you can usually count on a couple of the pots of brewed coffee to be empty -- it is always a revelation to the staff when they discover that they are out of coffee. In addition, cleanliness is not one of the strengths of this restaurant. Customers usually have to clean up their own table as the staff is typically outside smoking or visiting with friends.
Pros: Nice Rehab, Good Food
Cons: Dirty, Usually out of coffee
This is the sort of place you really want to like.
Except the coffee is average at best. The service average. The food is okay, but it takes an hour to get anything.
They have a great menu, if only they could follow through.
I'm really into off-the-beaten-path places that are unique, and this is definitely one of them! I do not drink coffee, so I cannot speak for their coffee. However, their hot chocolate was out of this world!! The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere, unique. If you're looking for fantastic hot chocolate, this is the place to go!!!
