I was born & raised there eating at Mike's whenever we could afford it. I left for the Army and have been back only a few times over the last 30 odd years but each time I make sure to stop at Mike's to get several BBQ pork dressed with a jug or large homemade Root Beer. During High School those of us who were in the Building Trades class, building homes in the subdivision behind Mike's would make a Burger run. I have lived & traveled all over the world but Mike's BBQ pork dressed is still my favorite. Several of my family members live in the general area so if I am going to visit them I make sure to get a bag full of the BBQ. Few years ago my oldest had enlisted in the Army and was on his way to Afghanistan so we drove the 16 hour one way trip to get each of us several BBQ pork sandwiches. Many things have changed over the last 50 or so years in West Frankfort. Some good others not so good. No more Thanksgiving day Football games against Benton, Coal mines hurting and where before we would cruise main street, park across from the high school, go to movies at the Strand movie theater before it closed, or out to the Drive in to watch movies with friends or your sweetheart. We might drink a few beers, smoke some weed. Now all has changed larger problems with drugs, crime or any other number of problems. Yet Mike's Drive-in which was our A&W years ago still has homemade Root Beer and those wonderful BBQ pork dressed sandwiches, just too bad they do not mail their food like quite a few other places will nowadays, overnight the package for a price. My time in West Frankfort, FCHS of growing up & enjoying what I could of life was 60's to 70's. I would highly recommend everyone should stop at Mike's get BBQ, burgers or a pork tenderloin and some homemade Root Beer. Then drive through town to Frankfort Heights, maybe stop at the Museum at the old Logan elementary school. Visit the park especially if ballgames are going on. If a basketball game, wrestling or volleyball is on for the day visit the old High School gym, there are few gyms of the size and beauty that FCHS has. Then on your way out of town make sure to stop at Mike's Drive in get a Root Beer float, some burgers or BBQ to go. Basically what I do if and when I visit.
I LOVE MIKE'S DRIVE IN. I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO IS WANTING TO GO BACK IN HISTORY WITH THE MUSIC PLAYED, THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE SERVICE.
THE EVERYTHING SAUCE IS EXCELLENT!!!!
SO IS THE ROOT BEER!!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
This place has great food but I believe they are a little overpriced. When it comes to fast food quality, you can't beat Mike's Drive-In. Their cheeseburgers are the best in the area. They normaly do not offer cheaper combo deals like other fast food places, which can make this an expensive place to eat. I would eat there everyday if they were a little more reasonable on their prices. For me it is just a once in awhile treat.
Mikes Drive in has been the same for 20+ years.Fast friendly service with the best BBQs around. Its almost like going back to the 60's ,,,a real old fashioned drive up with car hops!! The root beer is outstanding also!
Mikes Drive In is the best place in the area to get the best home-made rootbeer you will ever find! BBQ is also among the most popular at the drive in. You'll find many friendly employees working there, which insures your visit to Mikes..the best. Fresh from the smoker, you can get the best ribs in Southern Illinois! *Memphis Style*..also, try the smoked chickens, they are to die for!
