When on vacation we always look for the 'one of a kind' restaurant that will give us a new dining experience compared to the chain places we have back home that can be found anywhere. Well, after asking a local gift store owner for recommendations we were directed to Chesapeake Seafood House. After a short drive we were stunned to see an attractive older well kept up building in a nice setting with ample parking in a well lit lot.
Inside, the restaurant had a breathtaking nautical atmosphere that made you feel immediately warm and welcome. We were greeted and immediately seated at a white linen cloth covered table in the main dining room by the fireplace by Dan, whom we later found out is the owner of the establishment. Within the first minute after being seated our waiter, Andrew, came to the table, introduced himself, poured water, and took our cocktail orders. A fresh loaf of warm bread with a side of honey butter was also brought out to our table. The menu has plenty of choices on it including, seafood, steaks, chicken, pasta, and other choices... all at a reasonable price. Andrew was easily able to answer any questions we had about the menu and after a short discussion I ordered the bacon wrapped tenderloin steak with five shrimp. My wife ordered the chicken monterey with a side of the five shrimp.
Our meal started out with a nice iceburg lettuce salad that was good and cold and tasted very refreshing along with the warm homemade bread. When our dinner came the food was very attractive and had been plated well. I had chosen the baked potato as my potato choice and it was very fresh, with soft skin on the exterior and white flaky potato on the inside. Definately not overcooked or sitting in a warmer for hours like at some places. My wife had au gratin potatoes that she said tasted just wonderful. My bacon wrapped tenderloin was cooked just as ordered and melted in my mouth. My wife's chicken was done just right and she immediately made the comment to me that we have to try to make this bacon covered monterey chicken at home some time. Each of our five shimp were nicely sized, fresh, and had clearly been hand breaded before being fried. They were done just right and were very tasty. For desert we each had key lime pie that is made on site by the owners wife. It was fabulous.
The total of our entire meal, with 2 mixed drinks each (which were perfectly made I might add) was a whopping $ 55. This was at the early bird special prices but after six pm the prices, according to the menu listings, were not much higher.
The overall atmosphere inside and out, prompt efficient greeting from Dan, very professional, friendly and knowledgeable service from Andrew, total food quality from the kitchen staff, great cocktails made by the bartender, and a great eye by the young man clearing tables and resetting them all set the standard of what is needed for a total quality dining experience. If I were making a movie detailing how a fine dining establishment would be run this would be a perfect model. We will be back to Springfield again for another visit in the future and will most certainly go back. Until then, all I can do is tell everyone I know what an awesome experience tonight was. Thank you Dan, Andrew, and all the staff I don't know the names of. You set the standard of excellence.
