The Courier Cafe was very good. The vegetable soup was real and tasty. I liked my Veggie Dagwood, and after tasting my companions Reuben, we agreed that it was the best Reuben we recall anywhere. The coffee/chocolate cookie was good, too - slightly crispy and slightly chewy with a satisfying flavor, and without being too sweet.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner... I don't care what meal you have there, it all rocks! If you have a little bit of a sweet tooth, be sure to try a phosphate and a milkshake. They're incredible! Also, they're the only place I know of (after the demise of Ned Kelley's) that has curry salad dressing. Delicious! I wish they would bottle and sell it. It's my favorite salad dressing.
I love the shakes and love the food, but the waiting for a table and for the check can be a bit frustrating during a lunch hour. The cafe has a great feel because it has maintained its small size, but that can also mean long waits during the lunch hour. I also would recommend taking very large groups if people are wishing to sit together. There are only a couple of larger tables and the rest only site 2-4 people.
In champaign we were just looking for a good american restaraunt with home cooking. We found that at the courier cafe.We went on a saturday night and waited quite awhile to get waited on as our waitress was swamped. There menu was full of a lot of homemade dishes and we were looking forward to eating here.I had the turkey nooodle soup and it was excellent and in a big bowl.We also got the potato skins and I highly reccomend getting these, as they were loaded with bacon & cheese. My honey had the vegetarian chili and she really enjoyed that. I also ordered the southern fried chicken and that was real good.I have heard from a friend that there milkshakes are made old fashion in the metal cups and they even bring you out the cup which is nice.We got a slice of chocolate cream pie which was real rich and just right. We also got some homemade cheesecake and that was very tasty and rich. This place was packed and from being out of town it must be a popular place to eat.I can totally understand how this place got great reviews and we will come again.Although are service was slow we still enjoyed are evening at the courier cafe.
I always enjoy a visit to the Courier Cafe. The shakes are amazing every time! Also, their sandwiches are pretty good. I particularly like the Dagwood as it is very flavorful and huge! Enough for two meals! It has a great atmosphere and pretty good service. I also like that it usually is pretty quiet, so it is easy to have a conversation. Great place to go for a good meal with friends.
I loved this place the moment I walked in! The atmosphere is so much fun!!! The service was exceptional too. The shakes are a must! Okay, now the food...
I have to say the food was alright - not bad, but nothing to rush back there for. I had salmon and rice. The moment I tasted the rice I could tell it was Uncle Ben's Wild Rice, which isn't bad, but kind of funny... The salmon wasn't bad, but fatty and very bland, just not exciting. I definitely recommend getting the sweet potato chips (instead of rice/potato or whatever the options are) which my date got...so good! Choose Courier Cafe over Silvercreek, too, better in every way!
Breakfast without the Courier is like beer without drinking. It's marvelous. Courier has a very well deserved reputation and gourmet atmosphere and presentation. Some of the service people act like it a little too much, and sometimes, if you don't look like money or Brad Pitt, your service can be perfuntory. Overlook it. The food will make you forget EVERYTHING!
