AWSOME FOOD. Family owner and operated.
I found this place three years ago, and go there 2-3 times a month.
its quite, clean, great value.
Its a Family ran place, big location great atmosphere, never packed.
Worth the wait for service.
Best lunch deal w/h buffet. If I could afford it every day I would be there!
iam from chicago, and love indian food. its always great to have some. whenever i stop by in rockford , i always go to the india house there. Of course i love the one in chicago but its to pricey but good service. When i go to the one in rockford there service is good, not much pricy food during the buffet. its $10.00 , thats a great deal 4 me . i can have my favorite foods for a cheap price, good service. I recomend coming here. if u want good service, food , atmosphere, or just wana stop 4 a good indian beer/wine then this is the place.
I'm totally addicted to this place! I go quite often and have become friendly with the family who owns/operates it. Even seen the husband with 2 of the kids at the mall & stopped to greet eachother. The wife is very friendly with me and plays with my baby when we go there. I'm teaching myself to make indian food at home but that is no substuiitute for the food at India House. I eat in sometmes and now bring food home so I can have it more often! Good people, good food.
Valentine's day. The place was not even filled near to capacity. Very pleasant atmosphere, swank little bar, lovely green tiled floor and walls, ambient lighting. We stopped in without reservations, and after about 15 minutes waiting for someone to attend to the front desk, were seated.
It was probably a good 20 minutes before we were served ice water, and literally 25 minutes after THAT that we finally got menus. There looked to be maybe five people waiting on all the tables, including some of the kitchenstaff and a young daughter of one of them who was dressed in a sweatshirt and jeans. I watched her take dishes around to the tables and literally ask the guests if this was their dish, and as it usually wasn't, she'd make the rounds until finding the right table.
The one gentleman who was actually DRESSED like a busboy finally came around and took our order in a rather curt manner. I ordered a crab dish, at which he told me they were out of crab, but suggested grilled shrimp. He then went on to explain to me the difference between shrimp and crab. Ooookay.
The food, when we were served AT LAST, was delicious. Sure, the vegetables in the curry were unmistakably that cheap canned mix you find at the grocery store. The lamb was on the salty side. It would certainly have been worthwhile had the service been better. While we were waiting just for our menus, we saw at least three groups of people just get up and leave. We and the two groups that were seated immediately after us traded questioning glances, wondering why these people walked about so nonchalantly and without any real effort to extend basic hospitality. Apparently they were understaffed, but they sure didn't adjust their pace.
Altogether, we were there close to THREE HOURS from the time we were seated until paying our check. My boyfriend wanted to tip them $10. He had a $1 and $5 bill and I couldn't convince him to keep his $5. Too bad I'd cooked Thai for lunch; the Thai Cuisine down the road has MODEL customer service and makes you feel welcome as SOON as you step through their door.
Food is really good but the service is horrible. It's a shame it's the only Indian restaurant in town. My wife and I have been here many times over the years but since the English guy left, the service has gone down hill and we haven't gone back. The waiting is painfully long so I would only recommend going here without kids and with tons of patience.
Like most Indian restaurants the food is a bit pricey.
I love Indian food - the smells, the flavors - and take the opportunity to eat it whenever I can.
I'm glad I went to this restaurant - the menu is very long and diverse. The Naan bread is excellent and the entrees delicious.
Staff was very courteous and knowlegable.
My wife and I have eaten there many times. The food is good and has brought us back despite the service, until recently. On our last visit we waitied 30 mins. before ordering. There is no wait staff, the owner and his wife take your order. after ordering we waited another 15mins for any food and had had enough and left the place for the last time. If terrible service doesn't bother you the food is good.
