The Olympic Tavern
The Olympic Tavern was founded in 1945 by Anthony Rotello. Originally serving local businessmen and factory workers a burger and a beer, The Olympic Tavern quickly grew into a full service restaurant and bar.Through several renovations, Anthony and his son Thomas grew the business from a 12-stool bar into the 250+ seat restaurant that exists today. The Olympic Tavern's formula for success is simple; listen to the customer and deliver more than they expect. There's everything from burgers to lobster tails on the menu, a great wine list and Rockford's best craft beer menu.
This is pretty much a landmark of Rockford. If you've never been I suggest at least trying it. The beer selection is great, the bartenders have been there for awhile and you usually don't wait long for drinks. Best bang for your buck is the Muffaletta Sandwich. Fries do tend to come out cold for whatever reason. This has happened on numerous occasions to me. However, overall it is a generally positive experience. Huge menu is a real plus, and easily the best deck in town during the summer.
Very disappointing. The potato soup I had was cold. The French Onion soup my husband had he described as a disgusting bland mess under way too much topping. Main course was not outstanding and I had to send my fries back because they were cold, the waitress had the audacity to ask if I had tried them first! Apparently The Olympic is known for cold food so why it is so busy is beyond me. Also, no greeting at the door, we had to wait for the staff to arrive and when she did she stood there and said nothing till we asked for a table. We would not go back there again.
This is a very good restaurant in Rkfd. I love it. YOu have to have their augratin potatoes. I love em. They used to have a great andoullie sausage appetizer but they don't have that anymore. If they brought that back...I'd give them a 5 star again.
