Maybe someplace in China you could find food that rivals Kow Kow's, but I doubt it. I started going there when I was first able to walk, and they were still on Devon Ave. I'm almost 32 now. I haven't lived in the Chicago area for about 13 years, but I still get cravings for their eggrolls, shripm egg foo young, and shrimp in lobster sauce. Unfortunately I'm not able to visit there often, but when I do it never fails that I find a way to fly or drive home with about 4 dozen of their egg rolls frozen and tucked into my luggage. This place will forever be a part of my childhood, and I love it dearly. If you have the opportunity, GO! Period!

My grandmother also knew the owners, and I have eaten here my whole life. Service is simple yet efficient, decor dated, but the Hong Kong steak and all other dishes are flawless. Some of the best Chinese on the North Side, for many decades.
Maybe I am biased because my Grandfather Lopez knew the owner, but I loved Kow Kow's Food. They had the best Rib Tips. I liked their Subgum Chop Suey and I don't recall a Dish I didn't like. I wish they would put out a cook book.
I've eaten here twice already, and will go back again soon. I don't want to sound like I'm exaggerating, but I think this is the most delicious Chinese food I've eaten in the Chicago area. The meat, veggies and everything else is very fresh, and of excellent quality. Sauces are delicately flavored and the chef REALLY knows what he's doing. You can get spicier selections too, if you want. Egg rolls are definitely a cut above other places. The black bean sauce is my favorite. Waiters are polite and don't gush over you, they just provide excellent, prompt service. The atmosphere here is very nice also. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!
Take a break from those trendy, over-priced Asian restaurants (not that there's anything wrong with them) and try the homestyle dishes at Kow Kow. You can expect huge portions and fast, friendly service - even on their busiest nights.
Typical clientele: elderly, overweight Lincolnwood residents. Like I said, it's not a trendy place.
