My husband and I were in Chicago for a trade show and the hotel suggested Lou Mitchell's....Wow, what a find. We ate breakfast there three days in a row....great food, greater service. Love the donut holes that they hand out while to wait in the long line outside! Then, when they seat you, the hostess hands you a little box of milk duds...just a nice touch. The omelettes were perfect, very fluffy and delicious..served in a cast iron frying pan...enough to share. I have already told numerous people about this great find....and will visit again on my next visit.

Good food though a bit pricey, had to flag down our waitress, because she was covering someone's break. Stumbled upon the place on our first trip to Chicago. My dad taught me a good waitress never makes you ask for coffee refills, this one abused dad's rule. Then embarrassing time after we left, waitress chases us down street to ask if we paid our bill in front of line of people outside. She said I guess the waitress set your ticket aside. If we go back will ask for receipt, maybe cashier decided to give herself a tip.

bland bland bland bland, and the staffers said it was suppose to be that way. They got upset when we're disappointed. They only take cash to make sure you have NO RECOURSE, because they told us absolutely no refunds under no circumstances. I see why they were closed by the health board. HIGHLY OVER-RATED, Keep taking cash only and getting suckers who don't know good food.

When your up early in the city and you want an awesome breakfast? Go to Lou Mitchells, this is hands down the best breakfast restaurant I like. Just make sure you bring cash otherwise your the sap in the atm line inside the little door opening.

We ate breakfast here on a Monday morning. We did not have to wait for a table but sadly we did not get any of the famed doughnut holes. The hostess and our waitress were both rude. There are no descriptions of the food items on the menu and our waitress acted as if our questions were a disturbance. Overall the food was great. I do not normally like maple syrup however, the syrup at Lou's was not thick and overly sweet...it was perfect. The side of one egg that my husband ordered was also MASSIVE! My daughter and I got mini boxes of Milk Duds and we all got a slice of orange and a date. The cost was about average but they only accept cash. There is an ATM machince convienantly inside. If you go downstairs to the restroom, don't forget to check out the news clippings which includes a picture and article about President Bush's visit to Lou's.

AVOID. Once a Chicago Landmark, with emphasis on quality and service, it has become a marketing gimick. They no longer have a bakery or use filtered water (despite the misleading signs and/or name). Laziness abounds, and with the exception of one server, customer service really sucks (they act like they are doing you a favor). Food quality is horrible, and frequently they forget to remove dangerous chemical cleaners from pots and pans causing discomfort.

very loud, VERY jam packed, eat and get out, not really worth the long wait, gold star for the donut holes and prune, but my fried potatoes/hashbrowns were sorta raw, I like White Palace Grill better

Sadly -- and despite its reputation and longevity -- Lou's is just an OK place to eat brunch. You wait a long time to be seated in an environment too noisy to converse in. Service can be brusque. Will give them an A for the donuts.
