This is what diners are supposed to be. Freshly baked bread, muffins, cookies....plus the standard diner fare done right. Eggs are fluffy, homefries tasty, and better coffee than your average diner. I've been here three times and will go back every time I'm in the area. Only a block from Union Station.

If I lived close to this place I'd be way overweight! I hate lines, I hate crowds but to eat here I endure both. The wait staff is great, the food is almost like eating out on the farm at Grandma's. Hash browns and bacon done to perfection and the eggs exactly as ordered every time I've eaten there and never a cold item. It comes with a bonus too, nostalgia, it’s like a piece of history you become part of. The only draw back is they are a bit overpriced I think, but not outrageous. You can't go wrong here. One day I want to try lunch there, I've heard it's also over the top also.

My wife and I started going there in 1975 before we were married. Lou had an interest in a resort hotel and wanted to put us up there for our wedding. The food is great at the resstaurant and the wait was worth it just to talk with Lou. My daughter has recently moved back to Chicago and we have encourgaged her to keep up the tradition. Sent from Clear Lake Iowa

My parents/grandparents began taking me to Lou Mitchell's when I was a baby (36 years ago). We took the train downtown and had the best breakfasts ever. I'll always remember standing in line, talking with Lou, enjoying my Milk Duds and donut hole, the fresh juice and excellent Greek toast. Always worth the wait, always good food, always a good time.

I love Lou Mitchells!! The food is wonderful, the omelettes are perfect. I love the double yolk eggs! My husband is from L.A. and he loves this place. Been to Lumes on Western myself, it's ok......

Chicago's best breakfast (maybe)
By BC, 8/8/07
Man o man! If you like your pancakes hot, your eggs perfect, and your server sassy, this is the place. They do not mess around. Lots of food, lots of coffee, and lots of folks. Don't forget the Milk Duds. An old timer told my daughter that the front window is bullet proof glass installed after a former owner had a disagreement with some disagreeable people. Very cool, Lou.
