A Taste of Heaven

Description

Taste of Heaven is an ideal place to stop for coffee and dessert in Andersonville. Just one look at the cakes, brownies, scones and other treats on offer in the glass bakery case will have you hooked. A few dessert standouts include a (rather generous) slice of one of their many house-made cakes (Jeanine's and the 1000-chocolate chip cake are both delicious). Another mouth-watering option is to try one of their apple pastries served a la mode with vanilla ice cream. It dishes up a variety of rich and creamy Petersen's ice cream flavors. For those with more appetite, it also has on offer a number of hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees. Just be sure that you have plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely meal, as during busy times the kitchen can become overwhelmed, leaving you with a long wait for your food.

Thought the food was okay. Always packed but still only required a short wait. Have to admit we never returned after seeing how absolutely filthy the kitchen was. Usually a dirty bathroom is a good indicator but when passing an open door to the kitchen, dirty without a doubt!

Are we talking about the same place on Clark street? Overpriced across the board (about 10 bux for a plain omelette!), limited choices of confections, and worse, anti-small groups and families that want to sit together. The place is beyond its carrying capacity. Should have a sign in front: singles and couples (who know little about food) preferred.

I live right around the corner from Taste of Heaven and go there often. I even grab goodies to send back home to family and friends, who love everything. I would recommend going for brunch on the weekends also, they have excellent food, especially the gourmet omletes that change daily.

they do it right
By Jeffry, 9/14/06
this small dinner always has tables; but expect a wait. They have some of the best food chicago has to offer. But as they say: the best things come to those that wait. If you ever have a long lunch break in this aria, you will not be let down.

No Children Please
By arb5522, 6/29/06
I think its great that restaurants are refusing to tolerate ill behaved children. Parents these days believe it completely appropriate to let their children scream, throw fits, and act like animals in public and that others are to just accept that they are kids. Well I don't! I think its rude and inappropriate for anyone to allow their children to act up in public and to force others to listen to it. When people go out to eat, they do it to relax and to enjoy themselves, not to be subjected to someone else who refuses to disipline their child. If you can't control your child, then don't bring him or her to public places because the rest of us in society are tired of dealing with your problem! I think this restaurant is a great place to enjoy a quiet atmosphere and I hope that others continue to follow its example.

By Roger, 1/10/06
The location is a bit off for me. Considering that I do Live arounnd Schaumburg. But the deliciouse pastries are out of this world. A very good guy and friend (RIP) told me about this place. I drive about 3 1/4 hours round trip.
