Bongo Room Incorporated

Description

The Bongo Room opened in July of 1993 in what was then a very different wicker park. The neighbourhood was just becoming the dining and shopping destination that it is known for today. Our original concept was simple: serve fresh, seasonal breakfast & brunch food in a unique way.

My family love, love the Bongo Room. They've made breakfast a new experience. The pancakes are absolutely decadent, and the waitstaff are always nice and attentive.

Over -rated..Food is not what it has been in the past. I have been going here for over 5 years...I had{ a crossint egg sandwich with one strip of bacon..... }There was over a hour wait , when we called and they said 45mins... our table was at the east front window. Where we had to be stuffed like sardines. prices have went thur the roof$$$$$ specials at 12$ $14 are not a deal. Mac ds is way better and cheaper. Sorry Bongo room

INSPIRED. Probably the best breakfast place in Chicago - no question. Service may be average, but who cares! The food is designed by someone who is inspired, adding various items to make breakfast truly unique. The coffee rocks. Price is on higher side, but if you want the best, you pay for it.

Great tasting breakfast, they prepare your omelet however you desire and with fresh ingredients, none of the boxed stuff.. Great place Only downside would be the wait, it gets TOO crowded on Sunday, waits could be eternal.. so plan to get there early!!!

Best pancakes ever!!
By hoppab14, 6/21/07
I ordered the pumpkin, walnut, raisin pancakes and they were so delicious! The pancakes were moist and not too sweet but they were covered in a vanilla cinnamon creme sauce that was to die for! We all ordered something different but this was definitely the best. The chocolate french toast was a little too sweet for breakfast. The service was great and we didn't have to wait too long, only about 15 minutes. I will definitely go back the next time I visit Chicago.

Pure Decadence
By Emily, 3/12/07
Discovered the Bongo Room thanks to other Yahoo user ratings on a recent trip to Chicago. The breakfast I had was AWESOME! Smore pancakes topped with fresh bananas and vanilla bean sauce. This is going to go down in history as being one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. My companions food looked just as delicious too, but not as sweet.

Strap in for a sugar rush!
By Ira and Maxine, 5/2/06
The Bongo Room remains on of the most creative places to have Breakfast. You can get the ordinary breakfast fare such as pancakes, eggs, omelets, hash brown potatoes worth a bit or rosemary and French Toast. It is all good, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Stop there and almost anyone will be happy. However, if you want to have Pancakes with amazing sauces (yes sauces) then consider the Banana Crme Brule Pancakes. Here they take the ordinary pack cake and cover it with a creamy banana sauce and few slices of perfect bananas (they like to pay attention to that kinds of detail) Other selections like the Strawberry Neapolitan, Blueberry Cheesecake or the Lemon Mascarpone Pancakes will make you wonder why everyone else just serves their pancakes with syrup. French Toast Fans and Chocoholics can unit in a dreamy Chocolate French Toast Tower. I think that says it all. This may sound like an odd thing to point out, but the fruit cup, or should I say fruit bowl, is a very nice surprise. This is a plentiful serving of fruits in season and the portion size is very large. My order came with berries, melons and bananas. Consider half orders, the portions are large. The exotic creations can be a little rich for some. So if you want the tradition and a taste of the exotic, they will even serve a single pancake all dressed up the way you want. The coffee is good, and the service is attentive. This is a must do for all of my out of town guests and they talk about it the whole trip and months after. We typically will go here once a month, guests or no. They are only open until early afternoon, so plan ahead and be prepared to wait for a table. Not to worry, just ask for a cup of coffee to sip on while you are waiting and they will oblige. Note they have a second location on the corner of Rooseveldt and Wabash.

Too sweet!
Much too sweet for brunch, or for any time in the day for that matter. Food is mediocre at best and it is WAY overrated. We were very disappointed with the selection and the food and the wait and the price and the...you get the picture.
