Strap in for a sugar rush!
The Bongo Room remains on of the most creative places to have Breakfast. You can get the ordinary breakfast fare such as pancakes, eggs, omelets, hash brown potatoes worth a bit or rosemary and French Toast. It is all good, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Stop there and almost anyone will be happy.
However, if you want to have Pancakes with amazing sauces (yes sauces) then consider the Banana Crme Brule Pancakes. Here they take the ordinary pack cake and cover it with a creamy banana sauce and few slices of perfect bananas (they like to pay attention to that kinds of detail) Other selections like the Strawberry Neapolitan, Blueberry Cheesecake or the Lemon Mascarpone Pancakes will make you wonder why everyone else just serves their pancakes with syrup.
French Toast Fans and Chocoholics can unit in a dreamy Chocolate French Toast Tower. I think that says it all.
This may sound like an odd thing to point out, but the fruit cup, or should I say fruit bowl, is a very nice surprise. This is a plentiful serving of fruits in season and the portion size is very large. My order came with berries, melons and bananas.
Consider half orders, the portions are large. The exotic creations can be a little rich for some. So if you want the tradition and a taste of the exotic, they will even serve a single pancake all dressed up the way you want. The coffee is good, and the service is attentive.
This is a must do for all of my out of town guests and they talk about it the whole trip and months after. We typically will go here once a month, guests or no.
They are only open until early afternoon, so plan ahead and be prepared to wait for a table. Not to worry, just ask for a cup of coffee to sip on while you are waiting and they will oblige. Note they have a second location on the corner of Rooseveldt and Wabash.
