Uncle Julio's Fine Mexican Food

Description

This spot provides all the right ingredients for a fun Tex-Mexican dining experience: an exciting, colorful atmosphere, large, tasty portions and killer margaritas. Typical fare includes ribs, fajitas and quail. People do not seem to mind the usually long wait and borderline kitschy theme restaurant setting. If you are lucky, you can grab a seat at the bar with your friends and make a long but happy evening out of it. Like the name suggests, this place feels like a large house or hacienda, complete with chandeliers and antiques as decorations.

My husband and I have not been to Uncle Julio's for several years due to moving farther away. While in Chicago tonight we both chose Uncle Julio's, and they did not disappoint! The food - guacamole, vegetable and beef fajitas, and chicken flautas were heavenly. The poblano mushroom is grilled beautifully and melts in your mouth as does the beef which could be cut with your fork it was so tender. The favors are wonderful. The service is friendly and the atmosphere fun. The manager was very attentive to everything throughout our visit. Great evening!

I drive by the Allen, Tx location everyday and have been wanting to try it. After reading some of the reviews , I almost didn't. After all of the reviews of the Dallas locations sounded like crap holes with hefty prices. We went at 630pm on a Friday night, there was no wait, although it was busy. By 7pm there was a line out the door and people waiting. We sat on the patio, wonderful Texas fall night. The service was not the best or fastest, it was adequate at most. Although he was friendly. Many reviews had said they were "rushed" out after their meal to help turn tables, I did not feel this way at all. There were 4 in our party and we stayed just shy of 2 hours talking, etc. I split the jwarez(forgive my spelling) with my MIL, half rack pork ribs and steak fajitas. They were both WONDEFUL! The steak melted in my mouth and the pork was sweet and tender(the way I like my ribs). There was plenty of food for the two of us and we were both full by the end. We did have to pay extra for cheese and sour cream. Who serves fajitas with only guac?- which was yummy, but heavy on the lemon. Most of the reviews had spoke of the SWIRL and how you had to try it if you went. I had no idea what a swirl was, but I told the waiter I wanted one. It was AMAZING! I had two! It is slightly pricey for Mexican food, which in my experience tends to be cheap in the Dallas area. The meal alone with no drinks was $24(after cheese and sour cream) which was fine for 2 people but I wouldnt pay that for myself only. After the food, 2 swirls and a bourbon and coke, our bill was $49+tip. Overall it was a good experience and I would return, although not too often at $57 a meal.

Solid tex-mex option in Chicago. Don't go for authentic Mexican food, unless you're idea of "authentic Mexican" is fruity margaritas and an endless variety of fajita platters.

Family friendly casual restaurant with excellent chips and fresh homemade salsa. Platters with variety of tacos, enchildas, tamales, etc are favorites here.

Still don't nderstand the crowds at this bland, slightly overpriced warehouse.

Sit in the bar and talk to Adil the bartender. Free chips and salsa but the service is not free!!! Shrimp wrapped in bacon is yummy with fajitas, add the fajita cheese. Uncle Julio's margarita tastes like battery acid just upscale it to Conmemorativo tequila for a better taste, ole!
