I grew up in Chicago & it was alway a treat to pile in the car & go to Rainbow & get a rainbow cone. Until I saw this on Yahoo I did not know they were still open. Now I know & next time I'm in Chi town I will have to stop by. The lines are long but worth the wait.
RAINBOW IS THE BEST!!
I grew up in Evergreen Park and my grandparents lived there forever, so we went there often. Rainbow was such a treat!!!! There is not another mix of ice cream flavors that you wouldnt think went together, but it works. Yummy.
And if you ask, they will even pack the ice cream in a container that you can save for later. :)
I miss Chicago style food living in the south. : (
I'm 64 and have gone to Rainbow since I was about 8. It was a real treat to go there. The place was always mobbed. The cones are exciting to see. There are about 6 slices of ice cream. The only flavor I didn't like as a kid was New York Cherry. The others were all dreamy! YUMMMMM
Ah yes! Well earned accolade! I grew up here, too, and couldn't wait to take my kids there. We've been in Indiana 15 years now, but it's still a treat to take the drive. Hope to continue the tradition for many more years.
