Tempo is the best place to go for omelets in the city. Choose from a variety of combinations or make your own. No one seems to be able to figure out how they make their eggs taste so good. Lunch and dinner fare is excellent if you are in the mood for stick-to-your-ribs type meals. The restaurant is open late, so you can even stop by at midnight for a late-night meal.
Was staying around the corner at Talbott Hotel (which has wretched food in their own restaurant!). Someone at the hotel sent us to Tempo. It was the best food!! Reasonably priced, especially for downtown Chicago. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Portions are large, but food is excellent. I had a grilled chicken/bacon/avocado sandwich & my friend had a cheeseburger. Both were huge and came with fries & coleslaw. We took half back to the hotel for a midnight snack. I ll definitely eat here every time I visit Chicago!
I go here quite a bit. Good selection of dinner food. Fast service, if not the friendliest, but not rude. Just busting their butts to get stuff done. Busy in the morning, but hardly ever a wait in the evening. Breakfast is the best, but the burgers and salads are tasty. Good value considering that you are two blocks from some of the swankiest shopping in the country. Also has some diet friendly dishes -- salads, fruit, the veggie egg white omelets, etc.
We went to Temp on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel, based on my husband's communicated love of omelettes. The food at the restaurant was really good, but the service at the restaurant was really bad...so much so that we found another place to eat breakfast for the rest of our stay in Chicago....we recommend Lou Mitchell's at 565 W. Jackson for the best breakfast in downtown Chicago. We will never return to Tempo.
I stayed at the talbott hotel and we found this place based on the yahoo reviews we saw on here. My girl got the pancakes and they looked really good with the fruit topping on it. I chose the skillet with cheese, egg & hashbrown and it was pretty good.My hashbrowns were burnt but was still edible. It was also neat to see some of the people come into this place, which made for good table conversation. It was a lil pricey but for being in the gold coast your gonna pay anyways. One thing that really was a turn off was they only took cash-no debit or credit cards. They could probably do better if they got with the times and offered to take other forms of payment.
Tempo was absolutely great. Breakfast is my favorite meal and this is one of the best. You won't believe all the omlette choices. However they do offer much more than omlettes for those folks who don't want eggs. The service was excellent. I will be going back to Chicago just for breakfast!
