Lou Malnati's Pizzeria

Description

Lou Malnati's Pizzeria on the North Side serves true Chicago style deep dish pizzas, complete with a thin crust and wholesome toppings. The decor isn't very dressy, except sports paraphernalia and framed T-shirts on the walls. The extremely special tomato sauce used here is made from the finest ripe plum tomatoes, that renders it a fine texture. Generous helping of sausages along with spinach, mushrooms, sliced tomatoes and a blend of mozzarella, Romano and cheddar cheeses is irresistible! Lou also serves appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches and will FedEx pizzas anywhere in the U.S. The staff is friendly and makes you feel right at home. If booze is up your alley, a full bar keeps you well serviced.

worst deep dish ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/13/06
Me and some of my frinds went to one of their restaurant and got a pizza. I tried the sausage and it was awful. the crust tasted like a quiche crust and it seemed that they had so much cornmeal on the bottom that is could have qualified as a cornbread. Also, the sausage was cooked awfully. It was a huge patty of sausage. It was more steamed internally than really cooked. the only thing I can say positively was the sauce on it was okay and the cheese was not too bad either. I say if you are thinking between Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, or Gino's, please do your self a favor, don't go to Lou's. It most definately is not real Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Lou was originally just a smooth talking owner, not a cook.

Not sure what all the fuss is about
By Dark, 4/29/06
Sauce has a bland tomato taste, crust is pretty good. If you order a sausage pizza you get a layer of sausage covering the whole pizza. That is overkill on the pork, eat a few bites and you have had enough.

The worst greasy pizza in the world, nothing but crisco and slab sausage, no sauce, crust maybe on a good day half done. Why everybody thinks that pizza is good should have their taste buds removed. Pizza Man

Gino's Lite
By Jimbo, 9/29/06
Don't get me wrong if you live in some place that has never heard of decent pizza like NY then you should give this a shot but I'm surprised Chicago natives are rating the pizza that highly. We should know better. The restaurant itself is great and the pizza is ok but its amazing how similar in style it is to Gino's which is why I have dubbed it Gino's Lite. It has the familar zingy tomatoe sauce of Gino's ....just not as robust in flavor....and it has the same corn bread crust....just not as buttery. If you must, go ahead and enjoy it but don't think you've had the best Chicago has to offer.

Since when does real pizzaa come with cheddar cheese mixed in? Not for me - I want mozzarella on my pie. And I think the locals odn't get that if you do pizza right, you don't need to offer several styles - stuffed and crustless are not authentic. It's back to Uno's for me! A visitor from the midwest region, I will only return there.

This place is a real disaster. Waited 1 hour for a table (not there fault), then 1 hour for average at best pizza. The atmosphere makes the place look like a 10 million dollar very well lit barn! Could not hear the music over the noise (ate at new restaurant in lake in the hills) I can not begin to explain the disappointment with this restaurant. They built it down the street from my house and I was excited to not have to travel anymore. Now that they are open I will travel get my pizza, drink a few and be home before I would have ordered at the barn
