Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago, Chicago

I am the Executive Director for the Trucking Chamber of Commerce in Chicago. I was invited to dine at Gibson s on Rush by a client. The reputation of Gibson s has been praised to me several times in my careers which include fine dining radio announcer. So, when I walked into the actual restaurant I did not feel as though I were a stranger without any expectations. When I ordered my meal I was very much surprised. I was brought a very well prepared steak on a plate. This did not meet my expectations for a $46.00 meal. When my waiter did not offer anything when I ordered my steak I had assumed that a meal would be prepared with a salad, soup, vegitables and desert with coffee. This did not happen. And, when I wanted to request a touch of steak sauce I felt that my waiter wanted to ignore me...What a rip-off!!!!!!!!

With out a doubt the best steak I'ver ever eaten, price matched the over head. Waitress was professional but had the personallity of a worn shoe. Felt like I was dealing with a hooker, (not that I ever had). I was surprised that she did not want the money up front. Steve, one of the owners was a classy and elegant host. But between the parking, traffic and tab, I would have stayed home and grilled a steak on the BBQ. It was like a great drunk that you regret in the morning but had a great time while it happened.

I always love going out with friends for dinner here.. wish i could eat like a baller every night.

This is the happening steakhouse plus more. Lots of people at the bar with piano player. Real energetic. Grey Gose Martini was weak at best (watered down), but the food was amazing. Enjoyed the Prime aged Porterhouse w/peppercorn and Prime bone-in rib-eye, both were done to perfection. Other dishes we tried include twice baked potatoe w/sour cream, chives and chedder, as well wedge w/chopped tomato and onions. The restaurant itself is packed on a Saturday night. Tables are tight but comfortable. Booths occupied by downtown regulars. The wait staff is polite and orchestrated by an invisible management. Server was Mario, he made us feel rushed and sneared at our food choices and was almost comical. He ignored several requests and vanished.

Stay away. Overpriced. They turn tables so quickly you will need to keep steak knife in your hand at all times to fend waitstaff off. Service is bad.Waitress takes order and brings check... rest of staff handles everything else. At the prices they charge you are going to get a good piece of meat. And it isn't that hard to grill it. Great marketing but service isn;t there.

Recently traveled to Chicago (Great Lakes) to attend my son's graduation from the United States Navy. My wife, son, daughter and son's girlfriend went to Gibson's for dinner. It was wonderful, great steak, huge lobster tail and everyone's steak was prepared perfect. No question, if you travel to Chicago, you have to visit Gibson's. Have a great day.

If you don't go to Gibsons while your in Chicago your missing out on the only thing worth seeing north of Madison Ave. No other steak joint compares. Take a real Chicagoans advice and dont waste your time at any other place for steak in Chicago. You will only be cheating your self out of a taste of pure heaven! Teamsters forever!
