Gino's East of Chicago

Description

Gino's East Pizzeria moved from its long-standing, truly run-down former location into the huge site once occupied by Planet Hollywood to occupy an even larger one in Chicago. While the glitzy exterior of the site remains the same as its predecessor, many of the brick walls, time-worn oak booths and even graffiti that customers had been encouraged to scrawl on, were transported to the new location. Thankfully, the taste of the pizzas don't differ too much and they dish up the same delicious ones that continues to lure everyone into dining here.

This is probably the best pizza I ve had in my life. You do have to wait maybe an hour for the prep, but it s worth it. I had the Meaty Legend; amazing! You can get yopur pizza half and half, my wife s half was excellent as well. We also had the house salad; large portion and very tasty, too. While you wait you can have a beer and check out all the writing everywhere. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

The Coca-Cola was really crips and delicious, but it was downhill everywhere else. The thin pizza was awful, tasted like cardboard, and was bland. Crappy frozen pizza from the freezer tastes better than this dogfood. And you have to wait and wait and wait for everything.

The pizza was rediculously good. A bit up there in price but well worth it, it takes an hour to get it but when you get it you will never want a chain pizza again, everything else is just sub par afterwards. You can order the pizza frozen online and have it shipped. I highly recommend trying it if you cant make it out to chicago. Went with four people including myself and everyone said best pizza they had ever had, we got just a deep dish pepperoni. Eat at Gino's East....I'll make it back someday.

7-4-10. This was our first and last visit to Gino's East. We waited over an hour to get a table, then waited another 20 minutes for the the waiter to take our order. The appetizer (Cheesie Pizza Bread) arrived 20 minutes and the it tasted like something you purchase from a grocerie store frozen food section. After almost an hour I asked the waitress about our pizza and was rudely informed that it takes 45 minutes to an hour, and she went on to say "didn't anybody told you that?" The pizza finally arrived, but after the first bite we realized it was not worth the wait. To sum up my Gino's experience; the wait was way too long, the staff's attitude was terrible, the food was all a hype. I would not recommend going to Gino's for pizza, but if you really want good pizza in Chicago...go to Pizza Hutt!

Excellent Pizza
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/10
My family went to Chicago for a vacation and my aunt (who lives there) took us to Gino's East. It was some of the BEST pizza I have ever had! Love the atmosphere too! I think I put my name in the booth! haha

The pizza was good. The wings were great! However, my daughter's first slice produced a long hair that was cooked inside the pizza slice. Yuck! We tried to make the most of it and did not complain. We should have. We then asked for a to go box. The waiter was kind enough to take it back to the kitchen to box up our 4 slices. Problem: when we left we realized he gave us someone else's leftovers! Not good! We will not go back or recommend this place.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The atmosphere is sort of...rambunctious but that is part of the reason why I love it! You can write on the walls and just about anything you can reach. Food here is even better!!! The garlic bread sticks and marinara sauce are so good!! Their deep dish pizza's are delicious and full of robust flavor!

Pizza takes an hour to come out and is sub par for the Chicago-style pizza. I would go with a regular pizza. The place has a cool vibe throughout in which you can write on the walls (except bathrooms, which were nice). They had TV's and arcade machines to keep you occupied during your long wait. The location is great (just off Michigan).

Gino's is definitely good pizza. However, I was expecting a more casual atmosphere. Our waiter was awesome and very honest about how long it takes for the pizza to be cooked (45 minutes once your order is placed). We got a medium (8 slices for about $25-30) for 3 of us (myself, my husband, and our 10 year old). The pizza was definitely a DEEP dish and was LOADED with toppings. We only had a slice each which left TONS of leftovers. I would suggest to order on the small side since the pizza is massive and the cost is high. Kids will absolutely love this place because they can write on the walls with paint pens (by purchase only of course!).
