Personally I never cared for Indian food but everybody I know loves this restaurant. They swear by it. Honestly it must be an acquired taste. There are a few items on the menu I enjoy but out of all the Indian restaurants I have dined this one truly tops them all.
The food is decent but not authentic. The flavor has been toned down for the taste buds of Americans (words of my Indian friends). It is still very tasty and a great value. Very nice setting and music in the background to totally set the mood.
I'm relatively new to indian food, and this was my first indian buffet, but it BLEW me out of the water...it was delicious!!! the service was excellent, friendly wait staff, great ambiance and best of all delicious food. VERY impressive for the caliber of buffet food, and it's only 5 blocks away from work :) try the spinach curry (i put it on my bread) and the stir-friend potatoes...my favorites! oh, and a lovely bar too.
This Indian eatery is a neighborhood filled with bars. It would be easy to overlook it. That would be a shame.
The Indian food and the service are simply outstanding, and the prices are quite reasonable. The ambiance may be more western than Indian, but everything else is so great, that is a small consideration. On seperate occasions, I took a friend here who does not ordinarily eat Indian food and a group that had never heard of it. Both were won over instantly.
The place sparkles. Staff was upbeat and helpful. The experience left us feeling as if we had been away on vacation even though the place is just 5 blocks from the office. A wide variety of choices makes it easy to please even picky eaters. The flavor palette is rich and satisfying and certainly off the beaten path for fast food junkies. We'll be back.
I was waiting for them to open up ,This was my first time going to Gaylords at 100 east walton street and I will definitely go again!!!
It was busy and there was a wait so if you make a reservation they seat you in less than five minutes. Our waitress was fantastic...she knew the specials. The atmosphere was energetic and the dining room it self has a dark romantic feel to it even though i was there with friends it was still nice. The tandoori Chicken didn't need any sauce it was excellent and full of flavor. The desserts were awesome the Pistachio Kulfi was not super sweet and that made it even more satisfying. I cant wait to go back!!!
Be it customer service, behavior, food or ambiance, these guys topped in everything. The food and environment both were very homely. The food was neither too spicy nor too mild. We went for the lunch buffet and very immensely pleased with everything. There was lot of stuff to be eaten, each better than the other one. The price is also really adequate for a downtown restaurant serving such wonderful Indian food.
I would recommend you all to give it a try - its worth trying. I would surely go there if I visit Chicago again.
I and couple of my other friends went to this restaurant last week. We ordered one of the rice dishes called Pulaav. I am also from India and so I know what this dish is supposed to look like. The dish we got was just plain rice with couple of green peas in it. It was definitely not Pulaav for which we were supposed to pay. Before I say anything, I discovered there is a dead yellow color worm in the rice. I immediately called the waiter and showed the same thing to him and asked to take back that order. By that time we were not at all in a mood to eat anything. The waiter saw the worm, apologized and took back the dish. To our surprise, he came back in couple of minutes and told us that it was not worm and just yellow colored rice. he brought the same rice that he took back except the worm (yellow colored rice) I was horrified to see how careless he was to give me same rice and claim that it was not worm. (While he saw it with his own eyes before taking the plate back) I argued that I am not going to pay for anything as we had hardly eaten anything considering the quality of the food. But the hotel management did not even listen to us saying that we have to pay for all the items we had ordered (including the worm rice) We were tired after day long sightseeing of Chicago and did not want to argue, so we left paying the bills. It was a horrible experience that we are not able to forget. Please do not take risk of your health and go to this restaurant. I am going to contact FDA for checking this restaurant.
